Best MP3 Player?

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a mp3 player that's around 30gigs or higher..I've heard a lot about the IPODS, Iaudio, Creative Zen Xtra, Irivers

so which out of all these are the best or are there any other suggestions?

I'm more interested in Sound quality than anything..looks really isn't a HUGE factor but being somewhat compact would be nice.

even though this wouldnt be the right forum to put this topic in i will still help you out. My personal favorite would have to be the ipod which i think are very good quality. Next would be a Zen because of how easy it is to transfer music from your computer to you player.

i prefer zen. everyone owns an ipod. be somewhat original :-D

ipods have really good sound quality, anyone who says they don't basically speaking bulls***

What you'll get in this sort of thread is those who own ipods and love them, and those who don't and (often) hate them.

I fall into the first camp.

i have had an ipod, an iriver h320, iriver h10 and a multitude of sony products over the years. i have to say, the h320 and my old sony md player are the best in terms of sound, and i mean with proper headphones rather than the shite free ones which have aweful sound
unfortunately the h320 is impossible to get hold of so ure best bet is the cute new sonys

i have an iPod, but the way the battery life gets less and less is really a reason not to get one. My cousin has a Dell Jukebox and loves it. Non-name brand players are cheaper, but warranties might not be there. If you want to be cool, go with the iPod, but if you want cheap, go with an unknown. Check your local radioshack.

cool...not cool...dont listen to that crap!

If you want the ability to hear fm radio, dont get the ipod, or get it and the 3rd party fm attachment

I have heard great things about the zen and ipod, I currently have a flash drive from iriver and love it...so small...FM...and great quality sound.

IPOD! one of the only things apple is good for

i like the zen for its sound quality. ipods are all hype, so trendy. however, ipods are cute though. i had a zen xtra but it's huge and bulky; the price can't be beat though. i prefer the micro more than the mini. I currently use the shuffle for working out because it's flash based and the portable philips because i got it when it was cheap.

I have no problem going for something "trendy" or "fashion" (or whatever adjective you put), as long as the sound is good. Personally, I don't know the IPods (considering that listening to them for 10 seconds or so does not qualify me as an IPod expert), but I won't buy them in the near future (another one instead) because I'm interested in flash, small players. So, I guess you should choose what you think will best suit your needs...

btw, I would put looks, style and all that as the last thing I would consider. Obviously not an extreme or another, so I don't want to walk with trash can... anyway, you got it...

I held off the 20gb, the mini, etc. because of the same reasons. I was really leaning towards the iRiver, but got a PSP instead...then when I decided to get a MP3 player, the Nano was out. I haven't had other brands, so I won't bad mouth them.

I can tell you, other than scratching easily, the iPod Nano was worth every penny. I wish I woulda got an iPod a long time ago.

the ipod nano is sure sexy ain't it, i sold like 2 nano and i really want to keep them yet at the same time, it''s too much for my blood

I owned 3rd generation iPod. It was good, especially at that time (there were not many equally good competitors). Touchwheel control is superb. Touch buttons are both good (when they work) and bad (when you accidentally hit the wrong one, which is very easy).
But if you turned iPod off and left lying on the shelf for a couple of days the battery would run down. That sucked. Perhaps new iPods have this fixed...

I now own iAudio X5. The best purchase I ever had. High quality sound with nice effects (BBE, MP3 Enhancer, pseudo surround, etc.), excellent bookmarking system (I listen to audiobooks and Japanese language course and need to bookmark in many places), builtin radio (I listen to classical music programs), builtin recording from mic and radio, no accessories required. If you turn it off and leave for a week and then turn back on, the battery is practically at the level it was a week ago. I don't need USB host, image viewing, and color screen but there was no simpler model (iAudio M5) for sale at the time. I wish it had touchwheel. Also, COWON (makers of iAudio) just released beta version of firmware which added DRM support for WMA files so you can purchase music from online stores now. Forget AAC and iTunes store with iAudio. On the positive side, OGG and FLAC are played natively by iAudio.

That dosen't seem to be an issue with my nano. To be honest I don't use it a huge amount, maybe an hour a day or something (when I walk the dogs in the morning and maybe a bit at school) and I tend to charge it every few days. I've never had any issues with it running down.

I have a black 4gb nano and it is awesome. Fits my entire music collection on it and i have no problems with the battery, mine lasts for about 12 hours with constant music and backlight on quite a bit. Pitty about the screen scratches though.

i used to have a philips 2gb. i heard horrow stories about it and about the software. However, i have no problem with it as it runs great. Not the best player in the world, but definitelly doent deserve all the horror either.
