MSI 1029/Redhat HELP!!

Thread Starter
Hello,

I installed RH ES v. 4 on my new MSI 1029 laptop. The machine was running horribly slow with low resolution from the VESA video driver. I installed the driver from ATI (X700) and things improved. However, the computer's performance is bad.

Hardware issues seem to go beyond the video card. I get error messages about the sound card crashing. I know that some laptop MOBOs have issues with 1GB ram machines, so I set my mem=1008M at boot, still doesn't help.

Has anyone gotten things working on this system?

Thanks,
Mike

why do you sue red hat. Use a more well known distro and with beterr hw support. Ubuntu, suse10, vector linux.

I am using Red Hat Fedora Core 4. It's pretty good. I have a Dell XPS Gen 4 Desktop and an XPS Gen 1 laptop. I had a lot of problems with Fedora Core 2 even booting. Core 4 is much improved finding and including peripherals and their appropriate drivers. Also look at the output from dmesg it might give you better clues on how to solve the problem.

I haven't looked at the compat list but does Ent. Server even support common laptop stuff? If you want RH I'd try FC.
