Lost Coast HDR Demo Performance (lets get a conversation going in here)

LOL Lost Coast is out. I play HL2 on my notebook on my x64 partition. Recommended settings for the game is an ATI x800 or nVidia GeForce 6800 BTW.

so I installed it, and turned up everything to max settings. video at 1280x800, all settings high, HDR on full power.

I was getting 6-12FPS!

(better than the review I saw a couple weeks ago was sayign tho. they were expecting 9600 to get like 5FPS max)

Anyway that was pretty fun. I may have gotten more FPS than that too, I was using FRAPS for the output. the game was still quite playable even at such a low framerate

Shows how powerful a machine the W730-K8 that eMachines had Arima design is, even almost 2 years after it's introduction

What display driver do you use?

I have Omega2.6.05a, works ok. Should I update driver to the newest Omega driver? Would that improve game performance? This 7422 is getting me more into games.

im using mobile-modded CATALYST drivers, Omega doesnt have x64 drivers yet. not sure which CATALYST version, because i can't install the ATI control panel ( come on Omega get some out alredy! )

but yah upgrading to the newest Omega driver will improve performance. as i update drievrs every so often on my home partition (I have BF2, UT2K4 and FFXI installed on that one) performance gets a little better each time.

Hmm wuppin 18fps ,i wonder is the x64 helping out there, i mean would it be the same as on 32bit windows ,or maybe on regular windows it can go even more because x64 drivers are still not that optimized.....

well video drivers aside the game is not 64-bit code and is running on WOW64. if anything, HL2 running in x64 is a little slower than running in 32bit windows.

What error are you getting when trying to install the control panel? Not to get off-topic, was just curious

No kidding! got dead quick and stayed dead!

Is the CP integrated with the cats now in x64? Might be worth a shot to try one of the older CPs and install over the top. I never tried any of the newer cats, but didn't have any trouble with the beta CP.

Sure, let me pack up the ankle biters (new 4 week old included ) and the wife. If I could get some alone time we could cause some havoc I am sure though!

should be getting it today, then we can have a nice low/high spec comparison.

I tried it a couple weeks ago. Without HDR, it runs pretty well at 800x600. It was very playable. With HDR, it slowed things way down. It was barely playable, but I *could* play. It looked really nice. I really wish laptops had better video card systems...
