Call of Duty 2 - looks great on i9300

There is a bit of lag in places with lots of corpses but overall it plays reasonably well and it looks FANTASTIC. I played it also on my desktop with a radeon x800 xt card and it doesnt even compare to i9300 (6800go). I guess it uses some shader options that x800 cards dont support. I played at 1920x1200, no aa, 8x af, everything else pretty much on max.

Did you use DX9 mode? I can't really on my XPS Gen 2. DX7 mode the game screams though.

Had that set to auto, I assume it uses dx9.

Looks the same on my 9300 as on my 3.4ghz P4 desktop with a X800XL.

In fact as with all of my games its runs smoother on my desktop...but of course everything on my desktop is slightly faster...Video card, hard drive, ram...CPU is probably about = 3.4ghz P4 to 2.0PM.

Anyhow this game does not require alot compared to BF2 or Fear...so it runs good on both my systems

COD2 ran very slow and choppy on mine. Maybe 2gb is in order.

We did a LAN party yesterday and I was HOSTING the server for COD 2 on my laptop WHILE I was playing and it ran just fine. Fun game...very similar to the first one.

We actually had more fun playing Age of Empires III though than COD 2 but that was just our gaming tastes I guess. BTW, I hosted the AOE3 game on my laptop as well and it ran just fine with no lag.

The best I was able to play at with a smooth framerate was 1280x800, 4x, bilinear, and everything else set to auto or normal. Is my lappy too slow or is this normal?

If you guys are having trouble getting decent fps (20-30) try turning the "Rendering Method Preference" to DirectX 7.

My frames went from around 20 to around 90.

What program do you use to display frame rates during game play?

type /cg_drawfps 1 in console, or you could use Fraps.

Would be nice if someone can post a screenshot showing the difference btw DX7 and DX9 rendering.

Click twice to see full resolution

First Is d7, second is d9. It's somewhat noticeable, but only if you're outside. Interior scenes are pretty much the same.(btw, this is from the demo)

Yup. It is a power hog though. Even on my desktop rig with dx9 turned on and everything maxed out running in 1900x1280 it gets a little sluggish at times, but this is playing on a 64 player server. It seems to play somewhat better on a 30 man server.

dx9 on my XPS w/ 7800gtx @ 1920x1080 running dual LCD;s. I get about 20-60 FPS in COD2.....
