i6000 - buy it?

Heres the news!
I've been considering the i9300 for a long time and ever since the US coupons wore off (right when i found a way to ship to canada from the US) my hopes died off till coupons could be released again.

BUT NOW, my dads friend recently won an i6000 at the local grocery store and he dosnt want it at all, and said "I'll get ridof it for $1000 (CAD)" if you want it.

So Im excited over it, and just got what specs i could from him (told him to type dxdiag in run)
and its Pentium M 1.733ghz, 512ram, integrated intel 915G

and of course a leather Dell bag lol

I didnt know how to find out if the screen was xga, sxga or uxga =/

SO ya.. he wants $1000 for it and Im pretty sure i could get it for $800. However in all honestly I'm really after a laptop to play World of Warcraft with on my lonng breaks at college when I have nothing to do and just for the chance to use it around the house and at my buds lan here and there.

I am not sure about the integrated graphics though.. thats not upgradable is it? What Im REALLY wondering is can this thing run world of warcraft?

My main machine is an athlon 1.733ghz athlon xp 2100+, 1.5gb ram, Geforce Ti4200 128mb - That what Im used to.

SO would integrated graphics run WoW decently? and is this a good price for the laptop?
-looking forward to replies!

You are correct in assuming the graphics cannot be upgraded, sorry. Further, the integrated graphics solution in this notebook will play WOW, however you are gonna have to settle for low resolution/ details and it will chug along.

The price is very good, if you haggle that down to CAD$800 you will be onto an excellent bargain!

ah! this sounds like a deal to jump on
Further more, since it has the pentium M 1.733, it may be worth while to buy a 1gb ram for it to boost WoW performance.

Also wondering! How do I check what screen type there is? under device manager? when i had him look in dxdiag over the phone it sayd "Plug and play monitor"

Any other specs or things i should look for or ask about? Not sure if he was warranty papers to give me or if i havta call dell about that (if there is one)

thanks again for replying so fast!

Right click on desktop and go to properties. Then go to the settings tab. Where it says "screen resolution", move the slider all the way to the right if it isn't already. Right underneath the slider will be the resolution.

WXGA: 1280x800
WSXGA: 1680x1050
WUXGA: 1920x1200

Bought it!

Inspiron 6000
Integrated graphics
512mb ram
1.733ghz Pentium M

things I didnt expect - 90gb HD, DVD burner, wireless card. So yay for that!
Has the inegrated graphics and WXGA screen but we'll see how it handles World of Warcraft soon enough

I'll start my forum lurking momentarily, but I have some question s Id appreciate if anyone could answer (i'll search i swear! Im just so excited and anxious for answers I have to ask..!)

1) I bought it from a friend of my dad who won it from a contest. So no proof of sale, no warranty card or anything that I can find - how do i figure out if it has a warranty/ activate it?

2) It came with only a word perfect cd. I'd like to format and JUST have windows on it (Windows xp home is on it) instead of all this garbage on the system. Can I just use the xp pro I use on my desktop system (would that work?) or would I have to call down to dell and have them send me a home cd (I bought from a friend, would i have problems if I called?)

3) Do I need to have drivers downloaded and saved before I format? from the dell site? is there a package?

4) anything else commonly asked?

5) Is it normal to be THIS damn excited?! =D

should be a program under start menu > programs >Dell folder called Dell OS Backup CD or something like that ..
there you can make your own XP cd (home in your case), no blootware

and yes, you can install any XP pro Cd that you have, will work (not sure if its legal, im saying that will work)

you can download it later... the only thing you really need is the ethernet driver (for internet), or the wiereless.. so you can download all others..

4) anything else commonly asked?
not that i know

yes

Hmm, all is working well except I do not have Dell recovery OS cd program! It recomends using is on the help file on teh computer too, but in dell accesories and the other dell folders it does not exist. there is only "Driver reset tool" and "express service code".
I notice i have a cd key on the bottom of the lappy too so.. now if only i could make the windows cd
