As from title, you answer to the opinion poll, and try to inform all the owners of the Ferrari 4000 to participate.
Besides, it's a good idea that everybody us send an e-mail to Acer asking a new bios that:

1. Supports pc3200 RAM
2. Allows the fan control

The web page to send the request is: http://www.acersupport.com/html/email.cfm

In the e-mail you write also the link to this opinion poll, to let understand how many we are to the Acer!

everyone participates, it's very important!

bye

It's absurd that this computer has been out for four months now and they still haven't updated the bios to run pc3200--ram that the hardware has always been been able to handle.

I voted yes mainly for fan control don't care about the PC3200 since mine cam with 2700 which i though most did and I really do not see me needing 3200 but I want the damn fan to turn off it drives me nuts

I'm in for the PC3200 RAM support.

But I also hope that they would give CAS control to the BIOS.

I don't think acer will permit you to control fan speed; then you can have temperatures problems, malfunction, and pretend they repair it.

but are you sure the new ferrari doesn't recongnise ram at 200MHz?

I don't think Acer would want to hand over the fan control to the customers, because that could mean several burned laptops. But if they'd just realize that the F4000 is almost as cool as the TM8100 series when on battery they could copy the cooling schemes from the TM8100 series - i.e., the fan could be off when the temperature is below, say 45C. In practice i think this would mean that the fan would go on and off all the time, though. A better Idea would be to have it running at a slower RPM all the time. I think this is the reasoning behind Acers design of the F4005.

I realize that a switch to 3200 from 2700 would not be a huge difference. However, I eventually want to increase to 2 gig of RAM which will require replacing both sticks that came with my 4005. If I'm going to go to that much expense i would like to get 3200 and have a bios that could take advantage of it.

Yesterday ( here in Belgium a holiday ) I mailed to Acer support notifying them of the problem, and i mentioned this thread. Today, 10.49am, also a holiday, I already received a reply. Now that's what I call support.

My mail :

My Acer Ferrari 4005's fan is very loud, even when idle. All latest drivers are installed and power management is set to "Portable / Laptop", "Fan always on" option is disabled in Acer eManager. When idle, the CPU runs at 800 MHz. Operating system is Windows XP Professional 32 bit.

Is it possible to release a new BIOS version, that fixes this issue? I don't mind the fan noise when doing cpu intensive tasks, but while surfing the fan is still louder than my music. I don't think this is normal for a 1800$ notebook... There are plenty of Ferrari owners that are bothered by this, as you can read on the following page :

http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=114597

And their answer ( rough translation, reply was in Dutch ) :

Your message has been sent to our support line, from which it will be forwarded to our production facilities. There we will check whether the problem can be replicated, solved, ... etc.

We will inform you as soon as we know more.

Sounds promissing !
