Very low wireless signal strength

The signal strength of the wireless networks I see from my Sager is always much lower than the one seen from other laptops (ThinkPads, Dells). In fact it is so bad, that I am not wondering if this is not because the antenna has not been connected correctly to the card.

1) Is this a common experience, or is the wireless working fine for people around here?
2) Out of two connectors on the GigaByte card under the hard disks, only one is connected. Is this normal? See it on this picture:

There were several posts about this (last year, approximately May/June time frame). Try disconneting the wire and connecting it to the other side. There should also be a Black wire in the vicinity. Try hooking that up (in addition to the grey one) and see what happens. The black wire may be "tucked away", so you may have to search for it. One wire was for Bluetooth and the other for the Wifi. It seems that on some units, the wrong color was used for the intended device.

This might not be completely related, but I was recently having issues with my Gigabyte wireless card causing Windows to run choppy, it would "freeze" every couple seconds like clockwork with wireless enabled -- basically making using Windows w/wireless intolerable.

I originally suspected a BIOS/firmware update may fix the issue, but it turned out to be drivers. I got the drivers from Gigabyte themselves instead of Sager, and now it works beautifully. The driver/utility I got from Sagers website appear to be the same, but they definitely don't work the same.. at least on my 8790. Then again it was in about 50 pieces when I got it so who knows what it's been through in its history.
