Xtreme-G Mobile Edition 81.87-v2 - Page 4

NTSC DVDs play fine. DVD is mpeg2, which works fine even at high resolutions. It also isn't of a resolution that I find to be affected.

good, i plan on upgrading tonight, after i run 3dmark05 again and a couple FEAR stress tests to figure my 78.11 fps levels. if 81.87 improves things, i'll be happy, and when the standalone i9kfangui comes out, i might give o/c a try. i'll probably just heat my GPU playing FEAR for an hour, hop out of the game, and hit detect optimal frequencies while its still hot so it doesn't detect too high a frequency, then stress test the heck out of it to make sure its 100% stable and i'll keep it below 80C at full load. i don't want it to get hot, i don't want to take chances with that.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the 81.87 driver. I know I am, and it beats the hell out of the Dell 78.11 driver .

As far as the DVD playback goes, I wouldn't worry about it, as for me, DVD playback has been fixed since the first "modern" 80-Series driver, 81.26. Before that, I just enabled VMR, and that fixed it. I don't play HD content (I don't have any ), so I can't comment on "broken" HD playback, but I'm pretty sure it's probably not a bug with the TweakSet, but rather a bug with the ForceWare driver (as it always seems to be) .

ya, i'm not really sure i like my 78.11, i mean, i got 3415 3dmark05 with them over the 3260 with the 76.50 or something, but since i got them i've had 2 instances where the screen got totally messed up with a solid colour background and a weird texture pattern of small rectangles and had to do a "hold the button" reboot. the 78.11 i used was official from Dell, and stock speeds, no fan control program. some people claim replacing their video card fixed this, others claim it was drivers or other things, im not sure what it was, but i suspect my GPU fan isn't always on or at the speed it should be. i'm hoping i9kfangui will fix that, or at least, new drivers. i've only had the screen appear twice after almost a month using 78.11, so i don't think it's a very serious problem yet.

Tony,

I can't believe you haven't tried HD videos! If you want to see your XPS Gen 2 really show itself off, download one of these. Some of them are stunning to watch.

Microsoft HD Videos

Well, I haven't tried any HD videos because, well, I have Dial-Up . Maybe I need to start a fundraiser or something so I can get the $80\month Cable that is my only option besides Dial-Up (my phone lines are too old, so DSL is out, and I have Satellite, so Cox charges more because I don't have Cable TV ) ...

Make PayPal payments available to gftony@tweaksrus.com...

GeForceTony has dial up...thats sad
Yeah, I have Dial-Up . That's why I can't upload a new version of 2.15.8187. It takes about 1.5 HOURS to upload the driver to the FTP. If I had high-speed, then it would take about 25 minutes. That, I could deal with. LOL. I just don't have the time with work, school (DeVry, studying to be a Video Game Designer ), and a girlfriend. LOL.

not 25 min.... 5 min

Or 10 seconds...
When you have almost 1000 kb/sec upload like me
I love NYU's bandwidth. No monitoring...
Only bad thing is they close all of the ports and you have no way of opening them.. (I want control...)

Tony,

One more question. The new 81.87 drivers seem to work great. I am still seing the banding graphics problem in Civ IV when zoomed out, but COD2 runs incredibly well. So good job and thanks.

My question: After installing the drivers, I still have the xtreme-g directory in my Program Files directory with all of the setup files. If I run the uninstaller, will this impact the installed drivers? I'm assuming that the xtreme-g directory is just the setup files and can be safely removed, but I wanted to be sure.

You would be fine uninstalling "XTreme-G Mobile Edition 2.15.8187" from the Add\Remove Programs list, as that just removes the Setup files, not the drivers installed. To do that, you would remove the entry "NVIDIA Drivers".

As far as Civilization 4 goes, it's a known bug with the 81.xx series of drivers, as some have experienced this problem with the XTreme-G desktop drivers, as well as the stock ForceWare drivers on their desktop. I'm sure it'll get fixed in about a year or so by NVIDIA .

When did notebookforums become a tweaksrus mirror site?
How do you figure it's a mirror site? It's just a discussion about these drivers, that's all. I've answered a couple of questions, but for the most part, I would assume that users who have questions would go over to TweaksRUs for help, as the drivers are based there.

Plus, having this thread gets more people aware of the drivers, making them more noticed, and hopefully, more respected .

Well for the one (and only) game I play on my XPS Gen.2, World of Warcraft, these drivers are useless. The tearing in the game is horrible now! I switched back to 81.84, and the tearing is gone. I don't recommend these drivers.

V-sync is disabled when they are installed, try to enable it again and see if it helps you out.

Hi GeForceTony,
First thing, nice drivers! Just one question I have. I was originally using the auto-overclock function in the 78.11 Dell drivers. Is that function available to me in your set of drivers? I don't see no Clock Frequency tab. Do I need to add a DWORD in the registry to enable this option?

I have the XG 81.87 right now, and mine shows a Clock Frequency Settings tab just under Video Overlay Settings.
