Fan Noise Fix

Thread Starter
I apologize in advance if this was already mentioned, I just didn't have 20 minutes to search through all the old articles. I've had my Ferrari for over 2 months and have had no problem with the fan. I thought everyone on here was just very picky. But I've been having a problem with my screen, it kind of flickers every once and a while (not black just as if its changing the lcd brightness from 100% to 95% and back a few times really fast) It happens on battery and AC. I tried uninstalling the Omega Drivers and using the mobility modder for Cat. 5.10, same problem. Then I tried installing the drivers off of Acers site, same problem. So I decided to download the eManager, and its a little better. While I was in eManager I found the option for Fan Always On, so I clicked it and wow my fan turned up and that is kinda loud. So I unchecked it and hit apply and it went right back to normal, quiet. That was probably already mentioned somewhere, but make sure you have this driver installed http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont...ies/amdcpu.exe otherwise your fan will always be on high because your processor will be putting out 2 GHz 24/7. I just realised how long this is and I apologize in advance. Hope that helps someone and if you know any way to stop my screen from 'flickering' that would be a great help.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I enable "Fan always on." the sound goes from loud to very loud. My girlfriend just bought a Siemens Centrino laptop and that machine is whisper quiet, even if you put your ear next to it. I can still hear my ferrari without "Fan always on." @ 800MHz ( power management is set to "Portable / Laptop" ) with music on, so I don't think we are being picky. It's just not normal for a 1800$ to be that loud. The driver you suggested is also installed.

Unfortunately I don't have a clue why your screen could be flickering...

the fan is loud,
i try to turn on the "always enable fan" and it become unbearable

my Asus W1N 1,6 Dothan is very very quite,
but do produce some fan noise too when phuses hard like gaming.
but the ASUS pushed hard noise is about the same as the idle of the ferrari

has anyone else tried downloading the driver listed above from the AMD site? Does it help in fan noise like Chakz said?

I always have it on Always Enable Fan and I can't say that it's that loud.

I haven't tried to change that setting so I don't know if it can be even quieter.

I just saw this thread... when I click on always on.. I cant even hear my own words

For reasons I dont know some Ferrari are very quiet (even with fan always on) and others are making noises like old air conditions. A couple of days ago I met a kid that had the ferrari 4002. His machine sounded like a helicopter in a quiet environment whereas mine (with fan enabled) could not be heard.. I couldn't beleive the difference and now do I understand the people that yell about fan noise...

I don't think they even have E-manager yet for those of us running XP64 . yes it is very imberrasing to have such a loud fan constantly. don't get me wrong the 4000 ferrari is a awesome design but the fan not shutting down is a huge flaw in my opinion. I'm glad the it gets cooled off all the time but it just doesn't seam nessesary when all your doing is instant messaging and browsing. Anyway it looks like we are all going to have to accept it and move on. Its been a long time and nobody seams to be getting any closer to a solution....

I have the powernow driver from AMD however I wonder if its really working properly. Maybe they need to update it....

They have emanager for X64....I think there is a design flaw at the production level. I have used new ferrari's that are silent and i have used some where the fan runs extremely loud.... The only way i can think of to explain the variation is the assembly line... Oh well, hopefully they will have this fixed in the 4200 series...

Good thread! I was considering buying the ferrari 4006 in Sams'Club, but even with 6 months try-out I believe it's not worth the hassle. For what I've been reading aout the 4000 series and 8204, Acer is just trash.

Well, huh. I wouldn't characterize Acer as "trash." I have a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC, which (along with all Toshiba Tablets of that generation) has a tendency to attract copious amounts of dust behind the digitizer (and in front the LCD). Does that make Toshiba "trash"?

I haven't found any more or less complaints about Acer than I have any tech manufacturer I've worked with.

Acer is awesome. Trash? Hah! I've got an 8104, and it runs perfectly. The only problems I've had whatsoever were the HDs, and those are 3rd party parts.

Acer just didn't design the last couple of notebooks well. It seems that the 8204 and the F4005 both have tendencies to have problems due to heat and/or fan issues. Hopefully future models will be more likely to be issue-free (rather than free issues built into the purchase).

Acer has made some great notebooks, and has made big improvements in a lot of their newer models. For example I saw an older model Acer that had keys sticking down for no reason (not a group of keys, but random ones. I definitely don't have that problem on my model.

As always, JMO.

If this is trash, then I love trash...
Have had a F4005 since mid Sept... fan rarely gets loud, and the majority of the time it's barely noticeable unless it's dead quiet in the room and I'm right next to it

Would you mind throwing a bone?

I took a look over Acer's site and couldn't find any download info for the EManager, let alone for x64.
