Gateway M505xl - No port replicator!!!

I just got my M505xl... and guess what... there is NO interface on the machine to ever dock it to a port replicator or docking station. None. I just called Gateway, they don't offer the replicator, and the dufus I talked to said he thought they would offer one in the future. When I told him there was no place for the port replicator or docking station to connect, he just when "doh".

To me, it's not important, I never plug into full size stuff, but if you are counting on a port replicator, forget it with this machine!

However, the machine kicks butt. Beautiful machine. Well built. The WSGA resolution was all I wanted, I wanted the 9600 (even though I only got 64meg), and I just 3dMark2001'ed a 9540 score. Not bad at all considering my old Gateway with 32 megs of GForce scored only an 1800.

Try the Targus USB universal port replicator. It is available at many stores and online retailers.

I used to work for business tech support in KC for gateway. We got to see all the new products before they were released. I remeber that someonce asked the presentor of this model if they were going to offer any kind of port replicator or docking station and he said no. They are a really good model though. I only got one call on them in 3 months and thats was software related. Gateway is trying to streamline their models down so there are only a certain number of configurations available. This lowers the costs tremendously. They seem to be putting better quality products out then they used to.

I don't think many laptops now a' days have a special port for port replicators, most just use a generic USB version.

I have heard many good things about the Targus Universal Port Replicator (USB) and everybody seems to sell them. I would give it a shot. I plan on purchasing one but I really dont need it right now so I am going to wait until at least after the holidays.

Huh? THis model is new

To the guy who said he only got one call on this computer over a three month period while working for Gateway...... this model just came out, so you would not have a three month history supporting it.

As to USB replicator... Ya, that gives me mouse and keyboard, but does not give me monitor.... oh well....

To genuis that does not know what he is talking about. The M505 has been out since August. The only thing they have changed is the processor and the video chipset. They have also added things like XL and X. The orginal model was called the M505 without anything after it. Same chassis same screen size.

Doh... oh is that all they changed

Oh... so other than new processor, new video card, new wireless option, and basically new motherboard, it's the same unit. Oh OK. So I guess the latest 3+ Ghz desktop is the same as my 5 year old Pentium one... both have powersupply and CD drive. DOH.
