Does any one know if i can get an upgrade for heatsink and or cooling systems in my 8890. Or does anyone have any solutions to keep my computer cooler

What's the issue? I've never seen any problems with the cooling on my 8890... If you're really worried, get one of thos lapdesk coolers, I think Byrtec or someone makes a really good heat-pipe one.

Never experienced heating problems with a 8890? They're basically a miniature easy bake oven son! lol

Check out the guide to lapping/artic silver on the 5680 support forum at the moment

The artic silver method is great, but you can also try laptopdesk.net if space is a premium, I love mine. Heres the site.

one can also get it at tigerdirect.com

hmmm does this cool the lappy as much as a fanned lapdesk??? i was gonna buy a 2 fan lapdesk but those dont have any room for the mouse once its on my lap, are there any ones with fan that have a place for mouse??? if not and if they both cool as much as each other i think the one in that link above is what i'm gonig to get

Another Option

Here is the link to the CompUSA heatpipe solution. It helps without adding noise or power consumption.

You might be able to combine the heat sink cooler (set laptop on it), and then set both on the laptop desk. BTW, the Laptop Desk 2 has an additional attachment you can purchase for a mouse. Never used it as I haven't received my laptop yet.

My solution was the heatsink cooler (good reviews and no extra noise or power drain), and a wireless keyboard and mouse. That way I can leave my laptop on the coffee table on the cooler and wirelessly type/use mouse from the couch with a regular beanbag lapdesk(for the mouse). No heat worries and noise will be potentially diminished as I won't have the thing right on my lap.

Temperature Measurement

Hot is hot and cold is cold.

Yeah!

But not to others.

Our dear friend Henrik, brought us a software tool to measure temperature so that we can compare and understand cpu temperature conditions.

I installed Henrik's temperature monitor and notice that the fans come on (allways) when the temperature reaches 54C. The fans keep working until temperature has fallen to 44C. Above 54C the fans start to run gradually harder. During tests my CPU temperature never went above 57C.

That is not hot - but that is my perception of the measured fact!

Hanko are those figures before or after you did the AS job?

Before.

That reminds me to measure the after situation. Things must have settled now but it doesn't feel different from before. I will check and report back in my thread!

I have the lapdesk 2.0 and it keeps my laptop cool just fine. I'm not sure how much cooler the lapdesks with fans would keep my 8890. But I've done the artic silver and using henriks temp program I get 43 degrees at idle and a max of 57 degrees but that is if I push it hard. With the lapdesk 2.0 I never had a problem with heat before or after the artic silver. There isn't really a need for the additional mouse pad extention because there is enough room to run a mouse if you have a regular mouse pad to set it on.

As far as the heat pipe solution goes (it's just my opnion) but I dont see how it could cool your laptop much more than the lapdesk 2.0 does. because once you remove the heat from under you laptop you still need to move the heat away from the heat pipes for them to work. The heat pipe cooler I looked at didn't have fans to move the heat away.
