Do you think that the swith from PPC to intel will make mac computers cheaper?
I think they might become slightly cheaper, but I don't see Apple pricing them in the range of Dell's computers.

i think they'll be close to the same price, maybe a little cheaper

only time will tell......

they will be a little cheaper in terms of hardware costs. i can also see CPU options appearing when buying a mac from the apple store, and have those CPU options be reasonably priced. However, they will not be MUCH cheaper because they have to maintain that niche market.

I don't know. The notebooks will probably be cheaper. ATX towers use a lot of off the shelf technology. Not a whole lot of engineering is done by the PC maker. They pick and choose the parts they want in their computer. Apple has to custom design almost every part that goes into their computers. Maybe they'll be a little cheaper, but not by much.

probably keep them the same price. But, while keeping them the same price, there may be some other updates. Who knows...

....Steve Jobs does, lol.

Apple will probably raise prices for the x86 Macs.

They have an advantage since they already sell a high priced, boutique product line using cheap off the shelf parts with expensive exterior styling to keep margins high. This is exactly the model Dell is trying to follow by releasing a "Lexus" line of xps machines.

They're trying to get people to buy the new Macs so they can transition away from PPC quickly and easily. Raising prices would be counterintuitive.

No.

The CPU is the only thing Apple is changing. The chipset, motherboard design, case, and software will all still be Apple engineered and designed. Thus the cost of making the systems will remain near about the same, and unless Apple lowers their margin expectations, the new systems should sit about the same in the price lineup as current ones do.

also can't forget the good people at ASUS who build it

Does the intel switch mean that we can run windows on apple computers? I've always loved apple design but I hate the OS.
yeah pretty much .at first drivers will be a pain in the bum-hole, but it will be quite possible.

As long as your willing to live without support.

i like the interface, but i've had tons of problems with the iMacs in the math major computer lab, and they're brand new! they all have problems with connecting to internet, they have trouble running math suites, and, if i had one, what would it be good for? no gaming capabilities like windows pcs, but i wont start an argument but i will say this, if i were to get a mac it would be out of curiosity

Don't forget that any computer that's used publicly will have problems if it's not maintained constantly.
