Hello,
I am settingup a wireless network and was wondering who has the best router.I was leaning toward linksey's and motorola.

Linksys WRT54GS.

I have the WRT54G and it is running 24/7 here. No problems whatsoever. I had a problem when I started using it with PPPoE (DSL here): the router would disconnect randomly. I could see that many people had this problem on the net (some here). Anyway, a quick visit to Linksys live chat solved my problem (edited: a five minute task). It was just a setting on the configuration page... Hehe, some people sold their equipment to buy others.... Well, I feel that the interface on Linksys hardware looks much more professional than... say... D-Link. Also, I can run Linux on it. Couldn't be more satisfied... Great price, great range (can pick a connection on the street!), great speed (both network and configuration page)...

I have a netgear wgt624 and have had absolutely no problems with it, very reliable and easy to set up, provides a good signal as well. I'd suggest either that or the previously mentioned linksys.

another vote for Netgear. I own a Netgear, one of my friends has a Linksys, neither one of us has ever had problems.

Most brands are pretty reliable and 802.11g is a pretty mature technology. That said, I'd go with the $20 router (dLink, LinkSys, Belkin, whichever one it was) from last Sunday's newspaper ads, unless you have some overpowering need to spend more or need something beyond the standard features.

Happy Belkin owner here, which internally is basically a wrt54g using a different firmware. I can tell you MS routers were PoS up to and including a year and a half ago. I don't know if they have improved, but for me they (microsoft routers) are a BIG nono. I'm with Olyteddy .... grab whatever you can find on super sale this week and you pobably are gold.

I have been real happy with Linksys. Haven’t had any problems at all.

I told about that problem (on the MTU setting) because it's very common on the internet and gave me some headaches for a few days (while I was searching for a solution). I've searched google with no luck, until I had the idea of contacting the live support on Linksys. They solved the problem in 5 minutes, if that much. Heheh, I guess I need to trust the tech support of the companies a bit more...

Anyway, the LAN side was always fine. The internet link was going down... what was requiring a reboot to work. When the DSL modem was at router mode and the Linksys internet link as DHCP, it was fine. However, I like to use things as simple as possible, and a much better solution is the modem as bridge and the internet on the Linksys configured as PPPoE, so I can avoid a nasty double-natting scheme.

I finally picked up a wireless router.I bought a US Robotics Maxg router and Card from SAM's for 82.00. Did I do ok?

d-link and netgear are what my family runs. no problems with either. i first bought a linksys, and it didn't work. my brother and my brother's gf have had similar problems with linksys, and my bro is a computer geek, so it wasn't just me.

TRue but it doesn't hurt to comment.

Im gonna back up Linksys. I've used all their products.

Router, Wireless Router, Signal Booster and the high intensity antennas. Everything works amazing.

Im gonna downplay D-Link because I have a D-link wireless G router right now at school... It only cost $10 and the antenna keeps falling off which loses signals throughout the apartment. Also, I get a LOT of packet loss that we didnt get before we switched from a Linksys router. I brought the linksys back home. big mistake...

ps-= steelers suck

You paid about $20 more than you needed to, got a less than highly rated router and bought it from WalMart...Is that OK???
Heheh... I would not distrust Wal Mart that much. I bought mine (wrt54g v2.2) on wal mart in 2004. The price difference from newegg was 9 dollars at the time. Considering that I didn't even considered the shipping newegg charges, i guess the pleasure of getting it instantly and the security of beeing able to change it in minutes (from where I lived) paid this $5-8 difference.

Howeeeeeeever, I've never heard of wireless routers from US Robotics. I would prefer a Netgear/dlink/asus.

Actually he got a wireless card with it so that is a pretty decent deal. Unfortunately you can get a Linksys WRT54g at Bestbuy right now for $69.99 and it has $30 worth of rebates which makes it $39.99. That is a solid router for cheap.

Sure, I prefer to pay more to get something reliable than having headaches in the future. WRT54G here still great after > 1 year.

The Sunday ads had a bunch of card & router combos for ~$60 after rebates. I saw both a dLink Combo and a Linksys combo at that price.
