In Need of a Budget Laptop

Okay, so I'm in some need of a regular home laptop. I'd like to be able to put Flash Pro 8 and Macromedia Dreamweaver on as well. I'm looking at something like 60 GB (for gaming and music purposes) 256 RAM (I'm not sure how much RAM Americas Army is. If somebody could tell me that'd be really good) and finally I would like a fast computer possibly above 2.6 GHz. Don't care what the processor is. If 2.2 works very fast as well... Let me know. Now the budget is anywhere from 1(yeah right)-600. If you guys could help me find a budget laptop, it would be appreciated. Thanks a lot and..

Thanks and Good Luck Men... MOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OUT!!!

Save the money, get a gun and one bullet... you only need one bullet.

Seriously, go to newegg, put in your price range and see whats avaialbe... you're not going to gat a gaming notebook for $600. 2.6GHZ... what a P4 desktop chip?

Wait for Thanksgiving, get in line at best buy, circuit city or CompUSA about 16 hours before they open and you might be one of 5 people who get a decent laptop for $600.

Btw: Pointing out you're a noob and everyone loves noob... is sooo un-noob.

You can get a minimal notebook from Dell or Gateway for around $600. But you will find it worth your while to get at least 512 MB of memory if you need to do more than just surf the web.

I was serious about getting in line Thanksgiving day.... I've been hearing some places won't close at all; but will have lines for the sales items.

I remember last Thanksgiving Comp and Best Buy had some killer buys... but it was very limited (less than 10) and people where in line for over 12 hours to get them.

As an example of what bargains will be available around Thanksgiving, see this post. The laptop described would be a good fit to your requirements. You would have money left over to upgrade the memory to 512MB or more (recommended).

but yea, you're definitely looking at a low end hp,dell, or gateway. Pentium M's are currently at around 2.2 GHz and are very good processors, so look for them. Those or the cheaper alternative AMD Turion processors. Also very good. HP has a 15" notebook with a turion that may be a little more than $600 but still is a good deal. and of course, all three have financing yaaay! dont pay all at once, just pay a lot more in the end with awesome 30% interest!

good luck.

Thank you all... I'm not intrested in camping out all night but I will take a look at the Pentium M. Thank you

Regarding having a look at the Pentium M . . . the AnandTech article linked to below is one of the best I know of regarding the capabilities and surmised architecture of the Pentium M.

The jist--the Pentium M is approximately 40 to 60 % more powerful than a Pentium 4 of the same clock speed. The 1.6 GHz PM in my Thinkpad is thus pretty much equivalent to the 2.6 GHz P4 in my desktop.

Have a good read.
