clock speed

Hi,

just got my i9300 and i am not too familiar with the computer clock speed issue.

When i right click and select properties of 'My Computer' icon and in General Tab it says:

Computer:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M
processor 1.73GHz
794 Mhz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

What does that "794 Mhz" mean?

Sometimes it changed back to 1.73GHz and other times it goes to 794 Mhz again.

And what about that "Physical Address Extension", what is that?

Many thanks in advance.

The cpu is 'speedstepping' or lowering voltage to save power when it senses that there is no need for max computing power.

1.73Ghz is your processor max speed.
794 Mhz is the current speed you are running when you open the System property.

clock speed

Thanks for the reply.

What about 'Physical Address Extension' in:

Computer:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M
processor 1.73GHz
794 Mhz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

What does that mean?

Thanks in advance.

So i am just wondering.

I was trying to enable PAE on my notebook. i9300 supports PAE but it doesn't seem to work since I have 1GB ram only.

So why does my i9300 have PAE enabled?

I also have 1GB RAM.

How do you disable it?

Thanks

disabling it you have to look for the boot.ini file located in the C:\boot.ini

You need to set the folder setting to show Hidden Files.

Remove "/PAE" without quotation.

i can't find boot.ini file even after setting the folder option to show hidden files.

I used Search also cannot find the boot.ini file

Anyway, is it normal to have the Physical Address Extension enabled?

My i9300 is only been a week old and I can't remember if the PAE is enabled or not.

I was so sidetracked with the 6800 Go graphics that i did not pay any attention to the System Properties window and the PAE

So yours is disabled and no PAE? that means is not normal for my laptop. Doh!

Thanks

It doesnt matter. Let the OS do what it has to. If you're looking to tweak your laptop, check the guide in my sig
