8890 Microphone / Talking Problems

Hey, I am trying to get the microphone....or any microphone in that case, to work on my 8890. Ive tried everything, plugging it into all 3 jacks on the side. Looking in the audio device properties. But nothing seems to work. I am trying to connect through voice chat on aol specifically, not just record my own voice. Can anybody help me out? Thanks

I know in the 8887 there was an option in the BIOS to change from SPDIF to the internal microphone. I think this is probably the case with the 8890 too. Dig around in your bios and see if you can find it. Also, to use the internal mic you dont need to plug anything into any port on the side and I would really not reccomend plugging things into the wrong port. Good luck.

2x-click on the sound icon in the systemtray and un-mute microphone. Then go into options-properties, and select "recording" and press "ok". Now select the microphone and turn the volume up.

Use windows sound recorder to test it. You cant hear your self talk but you'll see that that the sound recorder is capturing sound (now you'll be able to use it for all other programs as well).

Turn the microphone volume all the way up since it's very low.

None of that is working. It doesn't seem to record anything at all. Any other suggestions?

It should work with the internal mic if you did what I told. Have you tried to play the recording? (ex record some secs where you blow air in the mic)

You've installed the audiodrivers from the drivercd right?

Just to let you know, the external mic requires the little black spdif/mic splitter that came with your laptop. Plug it into the port farthest away from you, then plug your microphone into the splitter. That *should* make the external mics work.

What exactially does the "the little black spdif/mic splitter" do? What does it look like? Where can i get one?

It's a little black Y-shaped cable with one male plug and two female receptors. In order to use an external microphone, you need to hook it into your SPDIF plug and pop the mic into one of the female receptors.
