Anyone running Call of Duty 2

Both the demo and the full version will run fine for a while on my 4005 with 2GB of ram and the Mobility Catalyst 5.8 drivers... but suddenly will power down the machine on me at some stage. I have to leave the unit alone for almost 10 minutes before it will even boot for me again. Everything else runs great (Battlefield 2, Quake IV, FEAR). Wondering if there is an incompatibility with the mobility X700, or if there is something I'm missing....?

I know exactly what your problem is. I've been having the same problem.

There is a problem with the stage that is the same as the demo, where you take that African town back in the British campaign. I believe it's called "Al Daba" or something. Anyway, the new catalyst drivers are the culprit. With the demo, I tried for days using different settings and it would still die on me. When I reverted back to the default drivers, the level runs just fine. I am running the game on an Acer 8104, by the way, which also has a X700 as well and a very similar setup.

Since your default drivers are different, if that still doesn't work, just use the 8104 drivers, they'll work just fine with your Ferarri. And another thing...it seems to be just that stage. I bought the full version yesterday and was playing through just fine with the new 5.10 drivers, but it died yet again on that same stage. Just install the old drivers, and you should be fine.

this maybe off-topic but may i ask wether the game could run faster if i choose "miles 2D positional audio" under the sound option? i do have the an audigy 2 zs notebook installed.

Do you have a link to the 8104 drivers? Not ones I've ever used before.

Regarding the sound, it should run a wee bit faster as the sound processing chore is taken off the CPU and onto the sound card. I have the same card, and I've noticed some jumps in quality on most games.

Sure.

And by the way, it's not just that level. I just got to "Point du Hoc" which is the first stage of the American campaign, and it died using the 5.10 drivers. Whoops. Back to default drivers, I guess.

Ya don't use the 5.10s since there not actully made for the Mobile GPUs I had problems with the 5.10 and GTA-SA it ran slower with them than it does with the defualts. And the 5.10 and keep aspect ratio when steaching is needed does not work at all. It full screens it which sucks when playing a 1024x768 game on am 15.4 screen. And never use a 3rd party driver also like Omegas.

Well, there are catalyst drivers that are created specifically for mobile gaming. They're on the site, but as of now, Acer does not officially support them. You need a direct link to download them. But, yes, I have found that the 5.9 drivers work better than the 5.10's. I get higher 3DMark scores (overclocked, I got very close to 3000 on 3DMark2005 with the 5.9 drivers) and everything seems to be smoother. But that doesn't mean that the 5.11 drivers won't be better, however.

I ran CoD2 on my Ferrari 3200 and it kept crashing during the American missions. It crashed on the DNA 5.2 cat, 5.8 cat, and 5.10 cat. So, I decided to revert back to 5.2 and return CoD2.

When I change my drivers I can't play SC:CT anymore, the game only works on 5.2 cats....a real bugger!

Anyone running this game on WinXP x64 pro?

I've recently installed the 5.11 drivers and had the same crash. Having played with demo before, the solution lies in setting the Direct X version to 7 in the Game Settings of COD2. It's not as pretty, but allows you to load and play that level. Dunno why it does that... but it works!

also, go to www.tweakguides.com for a good COD2 optimization. There is an autoexec.cfg and tweak.cfg that you should use to get better performance without degrading the quality.
