Amilo 3438 external screen/resolution

I'm seriously considering the purchase of an Amilo 3438 (as opposed to buying a new desktop); by all indications it looks like one heck of a machine. I'll also be buying an over-sized screen sometime in the next year, however, and I'm wondering how that will work out. According to Nvidia, the 6800 card goes up to 2048x1536, but is the Amilo's DVI actually capable of that output? Even if it is, that would leave out (more or less, anyway) screens like the Apple 30-inch with its 2560 x 1600 resolution. Any possibilities as to upgrading the graphics card/DVI-output in future?

While on the subject of future-proofing: any worries about the Pentium M 1.87 not being 64-bit-capable? Or is that just needless paranoia?

The current PentiumM/Centrino (Sonoma) is not, and will not be, 64-bit capable.

Don't hold me to this, but I'm not so sure that its immediate, dual-core PentiumM successor (in the centrino form of Yonah) will, either.

Merom (after Yonah) will indeed, however, be 64-bit compatible. But we're talking late2006/early2007.

Thanks for that. Well, I don't think I'll be needing 64-bit for quite some time anyway, so I'm not going let that hold me off on purchasing the 3438G.

I believe the DVI output will be limited to 1920x1200 due to the limitations of DVI, to go above this you need dual link DVI which is only slowly becoming available on the topend desktop graphics cards, usually only available on workstation class cards.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Oh well, 1920x1200 is nothing to scoff at, that would look fine on the majority of widescreen LCD monitors.
