speaker sounds

kinda wierd, I got my 8890 with a sound blaster extigy hooked up, and I used to have a home bose system hooked up and the speakers would kind of make a repeated type of popping/staticy noise (but not popping) for a few seconds then stop, and randomly repeat.

eventually the bose sub blew somehow.

now I went and got a budget speaker system, its a 5.1 creative system, the 5400 or 7400...something like that, was 100 bucks then a 20 dollar rebate so 80 bucks, sound pretty good. But im getting that noise sometimes too, and I try making sure everythings in place right, connected ect, and my sound drivers, but it still does it.

anyone know what the deal is? dont want these blowing up somehow too.

*woot 200th post :P*

WoOt you blew a bose sub!?!?!

I'm sorry to hear about it, that seriously SUCKS!

Hope you can prevent it from happening again. Sounds like your getting some kind of electrical interference. Check your cables and make sure your audio cable isn't too close to any others. Also it could be coming from the computer itself, like the HD or a fan causing interference. I don't really know what else to tell ya. Hopefully somebody will know more about this than i do, maybe try emailing pctorque and tell em what your situation is...and definitely tell em about the blown speakers...thats crazy. Also you may try checking your power connections. Is the speaker system hooked up to a surge protector or somethin? try plugging it straight into the wall socket...might not be getting clean, even power.

Good luck, and sorry to hear about your poor dead bose

Some things to try.

1. Does the sound occur on battery power. If it does not then that means something in house electrical system is causing the interference. Usually something that draws a lot of power like central heat and air. Don't know of a fix except paying an electrician lots of money to find it.

2. If the sound still occurs on battery power then it could be the placement of the speakers. Some are unshielded and can cause interference because of the magnets in the speakers. I'm guessing the small speakers and sub-woofers in Laptops must be shielded to prevent loss of data on hard drives. Malfunctioning Radio devices can also cause interference.

3. Some people have reported that disabling the IR Port in Device Manager worked to fix a sound problem.

still did it on battery, not sure if the speakers placement is affecting it, they seem far away enough for me and it isnt doing it all the time, only every once in a while.

turned off ir port to see if it does anything.

*edit*

yup just did it

think it may be cell phone interference, my friends cell phone was getting a call and before it even rang (when signal was being sent) the speakers were like BURRRRRRR, and my cell phone sits on this desk. ill have to see if it only makes the noise when im on the phone, or when its around.

This is crazy, please let us know if you fix it. I know there was a thread a while back about the fans and hard drives causing noise but that was on the internal sound card. Never the less, it might give you some clues.

Test to see how far away the sound disappears.

Im having a similar problem. I just recently bought a Sound Blaster MP3+.
I hooked it up to my sager, and It worked fine. THen I decided to installed the Sound Blaster driver. THe driver caused noise to when watching DVDs. Before i installed the driver there was no noise while watching DVDS. Does anyone know why theres is noise with the driver installed.
