Any Area-51 m7700 owners who haven't had any problems???

Thread Starter
I was geeked to buy a new Alienware Area-51 m7700 until I found this forum. I've heard every crap story about Alienware, so now I would like to hear from real Area-51 m7700 owners. The guys who can give me a real idea of what to expect from the company and the machine. I don't want to hear from you extreme left and right idiots. Nothing from the "Alienware screwed me blah blah cry cry" bitches and nothing from the "Our Alienware who art in Miami Hallowed be Thy name" mindless brain washed fools.

I'm looking for guys or gals who can present the good and the bad in of Alienware and the Area-51 m7700.

Also respect each other if you disagree with someone then disagree. There is no need to be a sarcastic, condescending, jerk to get your point across.

This I plan on buying:

I have had no problems with my 51m-7700. AW support has always been very helpful - they have even agreed to replace my LCD as it has a stuck pixel near the middle of the screen,

no problems. got my system on Jan17th of 2005. any problems i've had have all been solved with software fixes, nothing wrong on the hardware.

my system wasn't shipped with a USB floppy (for reloading OS). i called AW and they sent me one, no charge for shipping, etc, no complaining necessary, and was treated like a king. "sir", "please" were used quite a bit by the AW Rep.

i've been running the system pretty much non-stop for the entire time, playing about 80hours of BF2, Doom3, photoshop, truspace, mp3's, etc.

no complaints.

I will say my laptop has been a good one so far. I received it back in December of 2004 and play games such as Battle Field 2 and World of Warcraft an average of 10 - 16 hours a day. I do actually carry it around quiet a bit to and from work and besides it being a little heavy it is an awesome machine. Origininally I believed I had a sound card issue, because there was low bass output from the system when plugged into my external speakers, I did send the system back. They told me that they could not find anything wrong. The reason I tell you this, is because the process was fairly painless and went rather smooth. I know a lot of people have had problems with customer support, but I have not had any really. I have two other friends who also ordered the same laptop and both of their machines also had the low bass output that mine had. So i figured nothing was wrong with my system and to remedy this I purchased a Sound Blaster Audigy ZS PCMCIA Sound Card. Also over time there has been some wear on the paint where my wrist sits just below the keyboard, but this is just due to a lot of use. And it will get pretty warm on the wrist after a while. Just my 2 cents.

No problems here. I have only had mine for 2 weeks, but no problems with this one. I had the older 5620 model and it did die about 2 weeks after my 2 year warrenty was up, however, it was a known issue with that model. It had the onboard video, Radion 9000. They were known for going bad. I knew about it 10 months before it happened to me. I was pissed at first, but hey, cant blame Alienware for faulty hardware. People must remember, these 7700 systems are HIGH END GAMING MOBILE SYSTEMS. And as with any high end system, they require some maintenance. I get sick and tired of people just bitching. I just want to see how people are fixing there problems.

I don't have one, and I'm a fanboy, so I guess I'll just sit here in the corner and play GTA San Andreas on my 5500.

No problems here. I've had it for six months, and push the hell out of it everyday. Both lugging it around and the amount of work I demand out of it. Would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I got mine in May 05 and when I first turned it on and started checking things out everything was fine. I then attempted to install my internet dsl service and ended up having to spawn my unit back to original settings but it was no problem because I expect to do some work and maintaining of my high end system. This is one of the reasons why I bought it. Everything worked fine after that and now I also know that my respawn disk will work if I ever REALLY need it. Also ,during the first week I was getting that fan "chirp" that people talk about so I called customer service and a guy walked me thru checking out different reasons that could be causing the chirp. He was very patient, yet I did sense that maybe he was not very hands on experienced, yet the info he gave me enabled me to solve the problem myself. Overall my experiences with customer service have been good but I can see where someone else might get a "lemon" rep sometimes. That's the nature of the business anywhere you go though, so it's really not a bad thing. I think most AW owners are like that story about the boy who came down to breakfast every morning and never said a word. Then one day he said," cereals cold" and when his father asked him why he chose to speak now he replied," because up until now, everthing was o.k." Hope this helps!

Got my 7700 in April 2005 and other than poor sound quality of the analog sound out (digital out works great) the only problem I have had started right after the Sept. 27 Steam update. Still searching for a solution to that. I'm not sure how a patch for one game seems to have affected performance in all system stressing games, but I am hesitant to blame the machine since it was working fine before the patch install.

Only had mine for a week or so but no real problems so far. Oddly, had some minor sound issues in the first half hour that then went away.

You've gotta remember, many people come to the forums because they have a problem so you're seeing a skewed population, biased towards those with problems with their machines. These are the guys creating new threads so they get a lot of the attention - and most problems get solved.

AW ain't perfect as a company but in essence they have a very good product.
