yeah!!! I got my 5720.... - Page 4

Now, I want another one

I know that online gameplay is always going to depend on more than your system, but I had been playing on the exact same connection but on a slower machine without any lag, and with my new laptop, I started getting lag.

Now I played back at home with my 10Mbit conn and there's no lag, so I'm confused but still thrilled about this purchase.

Full size keys are making me happy since I'm a software engineer by profession.

Oh, and my logitech mediaplay mouse just arrived, so I think that completes my assemble.

were you wireless? i played wireless Warhammer 40k with my 5320 and it played better than my hard-wired p4 system. I will be trying the 5720 wireless with Warhammer and Ventrilo tonight...

it is in the nvidia control pannel under the 3d settings and overclocking headings. basically it automatically overclocks your card. assuming you have the 8 series drivers that is... turn it on and see what you can accomplish (at your own risk of course)

does nvidia not recommend it?
No one recommends overclocking of their product as it can shorten life span due to increased temperatures and other factors. Although, that doesn't stop us. I have my desktop AMD 64 3000+ Winchester core OC'd from 1.87 to 2.2GHz and my 6600GT OC'd to 563Mhz core and 1.03Ghz mem.

Have any 5720 owners experienced overheating?

Without overclocking, I can get about 5 minutes into a game and then it starts choking until it cools off again (vicious cycle).

I didn't think a centrino platform would have this problem...

as it has been said they dont recomend it but also it can break the product completely if you OC it over the limit, a litteral meltdown. auto OC is a little safer since it is an nvidia tool but still it is not fool proof.

BTW, what do I need to alter to install the .87's?
Is it every game that has slow down or just certain ones? This was one of the machines I was considering as an present to my self; but want to see how you owners like it so far.

Got mine yesterday!!

It is unbelievable!! To the person who wanted the "overall feel" of the laptop, it is really solid. The keyboard has no flex and the palm rest has no real heat concerns. As stated before, the right palm rest gets a little warm, but is far from hot. I am very happy with this purchase.

The 1920x1200 screen is fantastic. I was concerned about what the size of icons and such would be, but it is not a problem. The fan seems to run pretty much 100% of the time and is a little louder than I would like it to be, but this is an area that I am very picky about.

I have been playing Serious Sam II with no issues at all, not even a hesitation or pause to be found.

The reported issue with the screen cover not matching up near the hinge is not an issue on my machine. There are no creaking noises when opening and closing the cover. I am actually surprised at how "tight" the cover is. In fact, I have to hold the lower half of the computer down when lifting the cover.

Under the "how weak is that?" category is the clock on the multimedia panel. It can only display time in 24hr format. It seems silly to me that there is no option to switch it to 12hr format. Is it a big deal? Not really, but it is weak.

Those are my ramblings... get this laptop!

Thanks commenting on this. My 5690 has just an overall creaky/weak feel to it, made me nervous when I put it in my backpack and carried it around with me.

Is there any flex or give on the bottem of it? any creakyness anywhere on it?

NO you dont have to mod any INF's files beacuase Nvidia's now support GO 7800 GTX driver and you can get the 81.87 driver for it from
