Wireless Network card problems

Thread Starter
I am very upset about my alienware laptop right know. I dont know what is wrong with my wireless network I cant even go 5ft from the router without it going out. I tried all kinds of drivers but they did they same thing. I says that my signal is very low all the time no matter how close I am. It goes in and out alot to. Other members in my family have laptops, a dell and a gateway and they work fine they can go 400ft away no problem and I cant go 5ft. I called the alienware tech support but they could not help me they told me that they would make me a case and I was to call back in 2 days that they were going to try to figure out a solution. If anyone has any information that would help me out I would Greatly Appreciate it. Thanks....

Whitey,
Alienware has pulled the wifi option from the website. That means they are aware of the issues many of us are having at the moment.

Sit tight as we will post here as soon as we hear what they are going to do to fix this situation.

What router are you using? Some have had really good luck and reception with the netgears whereas some have posted horror stories with the linksys routers...perhaps try a new router...buy one and test it out and then return the router (or keep it)...this way you can eliminate the router/compatability issue...just a thought!

I ordered my laptop (with the wireless card) on Dec 5th and it is currently sitting in phase 4. I wonder if I'll be getting an email from Alienware about the card soon. Hmm? Or will they ship me the problematic card anyways?

Maybe I can work a free upgrade to the so called "soon to be out" 9700 ATI.

Yep, those were air quotes!

I can connect to my linksys wireless G router at my neighbors house next door using my old laptop.

Precisely. It's the a/b/g card that's the issue at hand. Thank god my condo is only one level.

I wonder if we could replace the card with this one and would it work any better just a thought

I am just trying to give a few suggestions since this is the peer to peer section for technical issues...old laptops, neighbor's linksys, getting a better card, or being stuck in a phase doesn't really help out the thread starter...let's try to make constructive suggestions and help each other out...opinions->Alienware General...
cheers

Did you try pressing the wireless on/off button a few buttons away from the power button. If it's lit wireless is on.

I doubt you would get a deal like this, since they are working, even though the distance sucks and they would just take out the card. call them up and ask many questions

I am having the same issue with my airgo mimo wireless card and atheros client dropping my connection - when I can get connected. I have had a new wireless card put in 3 times now. This card worked for almost 6 months at school - no problem and then started acting up. It won't work at home or at school now. We have linksys router at home, but it never had a problem with it before, and now alienware's way of fixing it is to tell me to buy a new router. They also sent me a bad respawn disk which I paid for when I bought the computer. I had to use it once a while ago and it brought up the blue screen of death. Now they tell me they can refund my $30 for it, but can't make a new one as that had to be done when the computer was made. So what happens when my warranty runs ont in 6 months if I need to respawn?

If the Respawn CD still works to boot off of, you can create your own image and burn it to disc...
