As for the card price - Currently you guys are actully getting it for the WRONG price - it is actually only the UPGARDE price you are getting if you are purchasing an M170 in the first place! I heard that somepeople at Dell noticed this and will cancell that SKU or at least restrict soon!

My brother's uncle's dog's sister's mother told me that Dell will give them away free with Corn Flakes VERY soon.

i.e. Source?

DUDE please tell us where this information is coming from...

Yea where is the information coming from? And only the "upgrade cost"? I think that 400+ dollars for a video card is more than an upgrade cost.
Serious question: Why won't the card prices drop in price as newer cards supercede it? Does anyone have graphs of video card prices? Anyone know how the 9800 prices changed over time?

I'd like to upgrade to a 7800, but not for $400.

I think a notebook video card for $374 that is essentially a Geforce 7800 GTX desktop card is a really good deal. Most desktop cards are nearly $500. I wouldn't worry too much about the price of this card.

I agree. But I think this is the wrong Price. A desktop card retails for 450-475$. I bet The Price is gonna be over 600 soon. But don't forget, you can ebay the original card. This should help the cost. There are plenty of 9300 Users out there with X300 cards who want 6800Go cards but do not want to pay dells Price

When I placed my order with Mark yesterday morning, he kept talking (to himself) while he was entering my order and he was saying "subtract $xxx....subtract$yyy...". So, I asked him what the real cost was for the part and he said "You don't want to know! Dell's cost is $699 and MSRP (?) is $724." Not 100% certain of those figures but they are close (to what he told me) if nothing else. Evidently, if those figures are correct (or close), he is working some coupon magic for us!

Oh yeah, and not to start any rumors but Mark also mentioned that he thought there could (would?) be a DUAL-CORE CPU upgrade available in the future as well.... That would be awesome (but cost prohibitive, no doubt!)!

ROFL - I bought my twin BFG 7800GTX's the day they hit shelves - $570 each.

$370-ish is not a bad price at all. The upgrade price from the 6800 to the 7800 on the M170 is $349...sounds like what we're being charged.

I am SOOOO damn glad Mark answered the phone last night

Wish my order would go into production! This pre-production makes me nervous! Ship already! SHIP!

There's nothing to get worked up about. Everything is fine, and we'll all get our cards for the awesome prices we paid for.

Dell promised us a graphics card upgrade path, and if this is our only outlet for getting it - I accept it with open arms.

like I said, the card is being sold at the WRONG price and dell logistics is starting to figure it out...Don't believe me? Askmark himself and I garauntee you that even he will tell you that this card is actually only meant for NEW system purchases and not the actual UPGARDE priced card...

Source? How about someone who works at Dell with Mark. More specifically Logistics/Dispatch department. Why do you think that it was so hard to get this card ordered?? It's not in their system because technically this card should not be sold seperate from a system...

Whatever as long as my order goes through I don't care what really happenes
post #155 of 406
That's all i've been saying!!! GET THE CARD NOW WHILE IT LASTS! I was just giving a warning out to those who were contemplating getting one.

It will probably either be harder to get one or pricier later. That's all I'm trying to say.

well,
I just called.
Got Mark's answering machine.
He said to leave him a message if it regareded the 7800 or a number of other products and due to popular demand, someone else might getback to me this weekend.

I did not leave a message. I'll call back monday.
I hope
1: there will still be cards available.
2: My wife will still be as understanding as she is now about upgrading.
