Any updated info on anyone's order status? Sony311 says that Mark may have gotten a "talking-to" but since people are still ordering them today from him, I will have faith that this isn't the case.

INFO PEOPLE! GIVE ME INFO!

Well my order is still sitting in pre-production. I will probably try and give Dell a call tomorrow to see if it's really going to ship on the 9th or be cancelled like many people are thinking.

Edit: My install kit has been in production since last Thursday (when I ordered). My card has been stuck in pre-production. I remember when I ordered my XPS Gen 2 way back the same thing happened. It was stuck in pre-production only to be cancelled weeks later because of an order screw up (invalid part numbers). *sigh*

My install kit is now in production while my graphics card is still stuck in pre-production.

Meh, atleast it moved.

Also, Im not too worried either since Mark is still taking orders today.

Yeah, I asked him whether the special pricing is still available, and he told me, confidently, yes, BUT "not for long".

I am not too worried.

I told you the card pricing will be changing. I know of 2 people that have gotten calls about their order and that it was being cancelled due to the "wrong" part. Wrong part meaning that the card is for UPGRADES TO NEW SYSTEM PURCHASES! That's right, you are ordering the upgrade card for the NEW SYSTEM PRICE.

That's why the new price will be a lot higher because the real price is $500USD or higher!

Not trying to be cryptic but I think I have made it clear. -> those who have gotten their cards LUCKY YOU. Those who still do not have their cards GOOD LUCK TO YOU <- is that a better way to say it WILLIAMG?!?!!?

i agree, $375(or whatever price you paid) PLUS the cost of your 6800U should be the final price for the 7800GTX. Those of you got the card at this discounted price is like getting your 6800U for free! or maybe dell will send you a letter asking for the 6800U back cause you only paid for the upgrade price.
Actually the real price is $699, NOT including tax, installation, or shipping.

I got this information from a Dell representative from spare parts. He told me this card is only for upgrades only, and if I wish to buy this card as a stand alone, I would have to pay him ~$800 after tax and etc..

This must be the same spare parts that can't even FIND the video card in their system for sale. As far as I'm concerned, nobody is telling the truth about anything. I don't believe anything I read on forums anymore, and neither should anyone else.

You say a lot of "I thinks" and "possibly" and "my theory is..." Therefore, I choose not to believe anything I read. Is that understandable?

I think the best thing to do is for someone to get a hold of Mark and ask him what the deal is. He could provide us with answers. I do not believe that Mark would screw around with us, as he knows how excited everyone is about this card.

We will know something is wrong if the 9th passes for most of us and the cards have not shipped.

The part IS in their system, they just can't see it. The Indian I talked to did not see the 7800gtx in their system after 30 minutes of searching, but I insisted the card existed and I saw it on a website; therefore, he asked me to tell him from which website I saw it from, and he went there, and saw it, then he said hold on, let me check if I can sell it to you, and the story continues.

The truth is, the card will be sold separately, but you will have to pay more, like I said $800 after everything, or $370 if you decide to upgrade the video card of the NEW M170 before the 21 days grace period is over.

M170, and be prepared to pay $800, or nothing.

Dude....seriously....relax..... this is notebookforums.com ....not governmentconspiricies.com

I can vouch for what Sony311 is saying....but like anyone else...i wait and see what happens....anyone that isn't representing dell obviously has no official statement... so take a grain of salt with what you hear from others.... but there is always some truth to the story....

Subject: XPS Gen2 graphics card upgrade go7800 GTX

Mark,

My name is XXX XXXX
I would like to purchase a Go 7800 GTX graphics card for my XPS Gen2.

Service Tag: XXXXXXX

You can e-mail me this address XXX@XXX.com or call my cell phone at
(XXX)XXX-XXXX

I have a 4 year Complete Care warranty with about 3 and a half years left. I hope there is a way to upgrade without voiding the warranty.
I am a Software Engineer and very capable of doing the upgrade myself, but if I have to have a tech come out to do the upgrade to keep the warranty valid I will not argue.

Thank you,

XXXXX

So, I called just now and received his voice mail again. But this time i did leave a message. The answering machine message is still the same messages that has been there since saturday night. It says he will be out of the office untill 9AM Monday Morning. So i am at a wait and see point still.

No, mark is NOT screwing you guys around. But when someone gave out his extension, he is a LOT busier

As for you WILLIAMG, what can I do to make you feel any better? All I am saying is that DELL is aware of the cards being sold at the WRONG price. Now, whether or not they choose to honor the sale is another thing.

Dell does have the right to cancel the order in case of incorrect price. Even their website states that. Yes, I understand that spare parts does not have this listed. It is because "OFFICIALLY" their is no such upgrade card for the XPS2 (yet) that dell has "officially" entered into their systems that spare parts can see. When they officially make the card SKU available for the "upgrade" they will have it but at the REAL price of $500USD or more...

If "DELL" is aware of this card being sold at the "wrong" price, how come Mark is still selling them?

Also, you say the 7800 is the "wrong" price. Really? Are you sure about that? I mean, according to Dell on a current config of the XPS M170, to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB DDR2-533 costs a not insignificant $325. So if, for example, Dell were to charge a more reasonable $150 for the upgrade, would they still be making a profit? OF COURSE they will. Heck, Newegg sells a 1GB stick of DDR2-533 for $71 after a $10 rebate right now.

Nothing is as it seems.

On a side-note, another pre-production morning for me.
