sometimes i am disappointed about my choice

well, i really love my sager 5680
but my biggest concern did play its role.
its weight and size is definitely a problem for a mobile student like me..
i love the power. but i sometimes feel like i should have made the switch to a powerbook. the 15" ones. they are light and thin. and the new mac osx software is really dandy..

but i was worried that for my first laptop i wanted something i knew would work with me rather than making me work for it..

u'll might wondering so whats my point.. my question is, if i were to ask ya'll why should I not buy a powerbook over a sager what would your comments be?
cheers

one word?
mac..
two words?
mac sucks

dunno everytime someone mentions apple I always think of some weird bizarre system with one mouse button and the little grayscale pc in a box the size of a milk carton thing. all b/w too!

anyway it's probably been 6+ years since i've touched/used a mac and i have no regrets cause mac is just.. the ugliest and *******est thing i've ever used compare to the possiblities of a pc.

well from what i understand, which let me tell you is not much at all, macs are better than pc's performance wise. The reason I dont buy one is because I have become all too accustomed to windows crappy os and dont wanna fudge around with a program to get it to run in mac osx. Thats basically the only reason. If it was guranteed that all my programs would run on the mac osx system, then I would get the powerbook.

same is my case. i have all the software for a pc (mind, i tell u i get most of my software from sourceforge ) but i dont have any software for macs.
i can find a lot of free software for windows (except for the bloody os) but i cant say the same thing for macs... so i fear in the long run, a mac becomes far more expensive, with that much money i could prolly buy 2 pc laptops (1 desktop replacement, 1 mobile)

I like Macs... for like.. word processing. But if you want to do anything else, I'd stick with the Sager, wait 1/2-1 year, and then get a really narly computer, because technology is zooming. I was going to buy an Alienware and my mind was set for like two months, then on these other forums they recommended sagers, and I'm like, woah nice comps, nice price, nice community. Then I found hypersonic, with the AMD64 chip, then Hyperdata with the same comp, but a lower price, then I rediscovered the new sagers coming out @ PCTorque and I'm like, woah, then someone posted the Centrino Notebook w/ 128 MB video card, which I am probably getting in January. I'll probably get a Sager because of most of you guys. Patience my friend, patience, more awesome computers will come in time.

I think Macs are some of the best computers ever made. The only reasons I go PC over Mac are:
1. Only one mouse button.
2. Small selection of games.

If you can't find software for mac's your not looking hard enough. Powerbooks are what every notebook is trying to be. Mac is real good, the only thing that holds true is the small selection of games. People who have never used a Mac for over a week will never know how damn easy these machines are. I have a Mac Dual 1.25 machine for my audio studio and the machine is amazing. I want a Sager for games. But would prefer a powerbook 15 or 17 inch by a loooong shot.

I agree, Macs are nice machines. Fantastic userability, great hardware, pretty to look at.

However, they are definately overpriced. Way over-priced, as is the software for them.

For performance, stick with Sager. The way that computers outdated themselves, why would you make major investments in them when they are to be replaced sooner than later? Spending 4,000 on a Mac that could could cost you half of that with a Sager does not make good business sense to me.

Cheers.

So to comes death. You can wait forever and never get to buy anything because the next great thing is just around the corner. Just be careful it is not a truck. If you need a laptop now buy it now. Use it now. Enjoy it now. Two, three, four years from now our once powerful Sager 88xx and 56xx will be but footnotes in the dust of history.

I for one want to kick some serious dust right now .

I suppose I had better say something on topic - Software availability and compatibility seems to be the major drawback of Macs. For every program that does work there are hundreds that don't. If weight is such an issue you might consider the x1000 or zd7000 from HP. But of course you lose that kick ass kinda feeling.

First of all, Macs are not better performance-wise than PC's. Maybe Apple comes out with a Mac that's the fastest, then Intel comes out with a processor that outperforms that, and back and forth and back and forth. The bottom line is, they're the same performance-wise, without taking into consideration other components, but no Powerbook outperforms a Sager.

I considered a Powerbook at one point recently, until I realized that I wouldn't be able to get all of my software and hardware to run on it. Too many risks and too many incompatibilities. Anything you could want will run on a PC, but this is not the case with Macs. Just too much of a gamble with a Mac.

People have been arguing about Macs being better at graphics, music, and so on, but that is also a terribly outdated argument. PC's do all of that now, and at professional levels.

Although there can be improvements made in any OS, Windows XP is about as easy as it gets in a sophisticated OS. I think a lot of it has to do with what people are most accustomed to and what their ability is in terms of understanding technology. I've used both Mac and Windows OS's for years, but after using Windows almost exclusively, and then sitting down with the Mac OS for awhile, although the Macs are cool, frankly, I didn't think it was intuitive at all. But like I said, it has a lot to do with what you're used to and also personal taste. Both OS's are for the most part equally competent generally speaking, but I prefer Windows in terms of flexibility and getting things done. Also, with the one button mouse the Mac system was far less flexible than Windows.

I like a lot of the features in the new Panther OS, and it's without a doubt a gorgeous OS, but apart from some of those things, I really prefer XP. However, I do sometimes wonder what it would be like if Apple had accomplished what Microsoft did.
