I've used the PM system to communicate with mods, AW reps, and other members with the assumption that PM's were "P".
I'm not sure exactly what is going on with that, but I will no longer use the rep system or PM system with information I don't want public.
The reputation system on these boards has basically been changed into a game, in the past we considered making it mandatory to show who repped who in your user CP as the content being used in the rep comments was beginning to become obscene and we had to put a stop to it, this was never done not because of privacy issue but because it compromised the fun our other users were having using it as intended. We were open to both parties who had sent bad rep and let them know they were to make amends or both risk removal from our boards. Long and short if you are that afraid of the person knowing who repped then negative with a snide comment, I would recommend against using the rep system.
The only way to view a PM from a user is to have shell access to the physical machine that NBF is hosted, only Shaun (our web designer) and my self have the information to connect to that machine and only Shaun knows what he is doing. We have in the past had to search through the database in order to find people defrauding our members, threatening our members, or attempting to solicit to our members. So if this is what you worry is then break out your tin foil hats and I will let you in on a secret, THIS IS TRUE WITH ALL EMAIL AND EVEN VOICE SERVICES! The only guarantee you have to privacy on the internet is the morals of your service providers. I would like to state for one that we have never even considered crossing the line of violating our users privacy, anything we have done even close to that was for the safety of our members.
To be quite honest Aurora's general attitude as well as stunts like this were what lead to us stepping him down from his moderator position. We intended to have Aurora stand down on the best of terms and allow him to stay on and continue to positively contribute to the boards it is sad to see how the once mighty have fallen.
