Ditto... I had to walk to work today, about 4 miles in freezing and windy conditions. There was too much traffic and finding parking would have been impossible.

I don't know how I'm going to get home yet... gotta love NYC.

Not sure if its right, but the striking workers are being docked 2 days pay for every 1 day they miss on strike. It was on the news this morning. Not sure how legal it is to do that. On NPR last night they also said a judge imposed a $1 million/day fine on the union for the strike. Sounds like one big mess.

Yah, it sure does sound like a hell of a mess, and if you have ever been to NYC, then you know how important the public transport system is....but the other side of the coin.... is that you cannot expect people to work for next to nothing while the price of Gas, natural gas etc sky rockets...people need to feed their families, heat their homes and on and on....I grew up in a "union" family, my father was a union man and in those days, the unions had some power...now, it seems more and more that people are being asked to take cuts, while the cost of living continues to sky rocket.....I have little faith in the Gov't to do anything about this situitation, I do not see any senator or congressman voteing to take a pay cut, in fact, they just voted raises again for themselves.....the sad part is that this is going to get much worse, before it ever gets any better....imagine if the transport unions in all the major cities in the US were to strike at the same time...this country would be crippled and we all need to remember that the "blue collar" workers are truely the backbone of this nation

That having been said, Cancerkiller...your almost half way there...tomorrow should bring full pinkness into your life!!

yeah what's your count now, CK?

Work for next to nothing eh? The average income for MTA employees is around 55K. I have friends that work really hard and don't even make close to that, and don't have benefits.

The strike is illegal and the fines justifiable.

ms....your going to hate this but...55k is not much money in this day and age....but, if the strike is an illegal one, then the union should be fined and there is not a real good reason they cannot negociate, while the transit workers continue on the job...especially this time of the year and it will effect people that do not work for MTA...they should go back to work, try negociate a resolution

It sure isn't. Did you know that our police officers make less?

I know a lot of people who make under 50K a year and own homes, take care of families, and get by really well.

If you lived in New York and used the subways everyday you would see how incompetent most of the MTA employees are. They don't deserve any of their demands and should be happy they have jobs.

Well... I'm off. I have a nice walk home ahead of me.
