Something is definitely wrong here... - Page 2776

haha, I did have watercooling on my old computer. But I don't like the hassle of it. Not to mention I could never get the reservoir to fill up completely and always had a water noise.. that was annoying.

As for the 5 hard drives, I have 2 74 gig raptors, a 300 gig Seagate, and 2 320 gig PRT Seagates. However, I'll probably keep 1 of the 74 gig Seagates in the old computer and turn that into a server or something. Water cooled server. lol

But for migrating to a new case, do I absolutely have to take the heatsink off? or is it stable enough to leave on? it's gotta be bolted down pretty tightly to have a good contact... but applying the Artic Silver and placing the heatsink is my least favorite part about building a computer
(yeah I know I have to take it off.... I just don't wanna!)

To move the mobo to a new case shouldn't require taking off the heatsink/fan. Just be carefull depending on the size of your cpu fan. It's pretty easy to just transplant hardware, just a little time consuming.

Well, my concern is that the heatsink is so big, that'll it put too much pressure on the CPU or the points on the mobo and snap.

Because it's this monster:

So, I'll probably just take it off.. I don't want to, but I'd rather not risk damaging $500 worth of components

Last question (for now ): I have cable ties, but is there anything I can use into addition of this to help my cabling job? I want to actually do a good job this time. Usually after building a computer I want to just start installing software right away so I neglect the cabling. But since I already have the software installed, I can take my time. Electrical tape?

I'm sure you're looking forward to moving on with your life Yang, but you'll always miss Cali...

Yes, you can get wraps and such for your cables. It helps with your cooling slightly too as well run cables don't interfere with your airflow and don't collect as much dust and dirt.

Sorry, got busy at work chatting with the boss... Anyways, yeah that Zalman is a monster, I've been looking at it for my CPU. It'd probablyl be best to be cautious and remove it.

As for the cables & wires, I think it's one of the most important aesthetic things to do inside the case, it also helps airflow quite a bit. I built a DIY before and used sleeving for the length of the wires and heatshrink w/a cable tie for the ends of sleeving. Made it look a lot better. There is a thread at Hard forums just for rating peoples cable management. I think It's pretty amazing what some people come up with.

I have that heatsink/fan, if you install it correctly it works well and doesn't stress the cpu/mobo.

As for cabling, AW routes the main cables out of the psu behind the mobo to the fron of the case, then route's them from the front behind the optical/hd cages. Works well.

You could always get yourself a nice set of round cables (if you haven't already got them) they route much easier than the ribon cables.

Hammer, I've been considering installing that Heat Sink with artic silver....is that going to void my warranty?

..I think it would, just checking.

People still use ribbon cables?

Give me a little more credit than that

Found the thread, thanks
Yeah, there are some amazing jobs in there. But mine do look better than some!

But at least that's a excellent source of ideas.

that's a great case to work w/ Thrill...btw "nat" = nationality

and HH, the only thing I'll miss about Kali, is the weather...I love the NorCal/Bay Area weather...but the cost of living here is the absolute pitts! haha

oh I saw on the news today that gas prices are going up...again, and California is predicted to be the only state that will be having prices of $3.00+ / gallon...while GA. is known to have the cheapest gas available w00t!

lol American / Caucasian. But I've always liked Asia

I'll probably order that case with an R600. It's gonna be sweet! Now I gotta decide if I want another 2 gigs of RAM, even though technically the CPU will be the limiting factor. So... it's probably not worth it, at least not for now.
I'll also get one of those 4 gig USB flash drives to use with Readyboost. Hey, a $50 upgrade ain't bad...

Nah, if you have the time, not knowing what roads your taking is the fun of it.
