it also hit me today that i have no credit history, lol, so no finacing for me, maybe the pops can help out tho. whats a good way to start getting some credit history?
Start using a credit card and pay it all off every single month.
Yep, BFisch is right. The other option is to get a credit card that is guaranteed by money in a savings account ... not an option if you have no savings, but something to consider for the future.

@ Guntizzle:

Your parents or someone else with an established credit history can co-sign a credit application too. The application will still be under your name, this will help you in starting a credit history.

You can try getting a credit card but if you don't have a credit history it may be difficult to get one or may get one with a low spending limit (which will still help in building credit history).

Stay away from secured credit cards, they offer quick credit for a deposit BUT the interest percentage on these are very high (40-60%+).

If you are able to get a credit card always buy the fraud insurance, you may never need it but in this time and day it is better to be safe than sorry.

Oh yeah, watch your spending and start with one with a low credit limit if possible, that way you won't be able to do much damage.

Edit: Hi Scott.

A good option is to go to your bank and see if they offer a "Credit Building Loan". A CBL is usually a lower interest loan for @ $2K designed specifically for your situation. They'll put the money in your account and you make monthly payments (auto-draft) for 12-24 months.

Credit cards are OK - but are all considered "revolving debt". For individuals that have an established credit history, revloving debt is almost certainly a HIT on your credit score...even with a zero balance.

Just something to think about.

Oh - hi folks

Hi Durden. I'm well. In the process of moving from Florida to Arizona for a few years (which is why I'm posting lots today ... avoiding packing!).

Yep, that's the latest desktop I built. Here's an abbreviated worklog ... pics at the end: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread204687.html

WOW - Impressive log and awesome system! You should put it in your sig.

And you're already looking to build something new?
@Buck47: This one was a "learning experiment." Since I'm moving for a while, I'm going to leave it in Florida and build something new in Arizona. Looking to go Air Cooled only because there isn't enough new stuff out yet to warrant anothe water cooled rig at the moment.
