Something is definitely wrong here... - Page 3959

Man did you see that review of the $1,750 configured Alienware m17 in the Mar 09 edition of Maximum PC magazine? Ain't pretty.

They gave it a 5. "+ Ethel M - Hip finish, luscious display, cool backlit keyboard."

"- Cold Ethel - Heavy, unimpressive gaming performance, terrible speakers."

C2D P8400
3GB DDR3 SDRAM
Intel P45
160GB Seagate Momentus (7,200RPM)
Optiarc AD-7590S DVD RW
Dual ATI Radeon HD 3870 (CrossFireX)

"As configured, this Alienware m17 doesn't serve any particular mission well..."

Guessing this review was actually conducted Mid Jan 09??? Alienware still took out ad space in the Mar 09 edition.

Too late for that review I'd say...

Hello AW.

Here is my PROTIP for the evening: You do not need Windows Home Server.

Uh oh. Throw it on down...

Well, I was all excited about getting it to work, and setting up the remote access, extra storage, etc. My router doesn't play nicely with the remote access, so I can't create the website unless I buy a 'newer' router that supports it. The server ATE my external HDD, so I lost 200GB of data...

Cleofizoid's PROTIP for the evening...remove the plastic shroud from the Zalman CNPS9900LED...the cut sheet tellz you to, it's for shipping protection only. Never mind the MaximumPC blurb that "It worx even better with the shroud removed"...makes one wonder.

Well dang, you are right about that, Cleo. Congrats, mb.

You know what's funny ... just a few days ago, I noticed we had yangshee (who has disappeared - hope he is well), and smilepak (who I don't think is active in the AW section) listed as mods. I almost mentioned something in a post, but decided it wasn't a big deal since there hasn't been much drama (that I'm aware of).

That's exactly why mb was promoted. There weren't any regularly active mods around who knew Alienware.

On a side note, smilepak is listed as a mod in all the review and benchmark sections due to the way those particular sections are handled. They're all "officially" subsections of General Notebook Discussion, and smilepak is listed as a mod of all General Notebook Discussion. He's not actually an Alienware mod, just to clarify.

note -- I didn't/don't have any issue with smilepak
