I'm not sure if that is the same 55-250mm you were referring to.

Juts remember these EF-S lens won't work on full frame bodies (5d, 1d) but they are designed specifically for our crop sensor bodies (500D, 550D, 50D, 7D etc)
I had read the reviews on that first link and think that it would be a great lens once I get up to that level. As for the second link that's the one I was looking at as being more in my range right now.

The only reason why I bought the 24-105mm f/4 over the 17-55mm f/2.8 was weather proofing. The 17-55mm would be better overall for my camera.

I am considering getting a water proof camera (DiCaPac) case. This way I can still take pictures outside in the rain or anywhere near splashing water and maintaining the full control of the camera. They don't come cheap though.

Yeah I got plenty splashed on when I went to a local water park. Kids think it's funny splashing dad when he's holding a camera.

That's what makes kids so precious You'll need a water proof case for sure in this instance. Just think about when you need to be involved to get to the precious ones without having to worry about who will be holding your camera.

That was my main reasoning for the 7D and L lens. I wiped it off when splashed but I didn't need anything extra for protection. (that's what she said?)

That's the simple part, what happens when you get splashed enough that the water gets "behind" the camera, like around your control buttons in the back?

It's all protected. The only possible entrance point is the front of the lens. I can use a filter to protect that.

I have the unstoppable craving of a latte with some chocolate, though I do not know of the consequences such decision at this time of night would carry.

Just make sure that you cooked the water good enough
