Athlon 64 in a Sager?

Does anyone know if Sager will come out with a laptop with an Athlon 64 in it?

Do you think it would be possible to cram a Athlon-FX into a laptop?

Thanks!

While i dont know if they will, i would love to see it (and would even upgrade to it!)..

My X-mass wish:
Widescreen laptop with an Athlon-FX and a ATI 97000 card.
DROOL!!!!

EDIT: I meant an ATI 9700 card. But if Sager has a 97000 card lying around i'll take that!

Wow, an ATI 97000, that IS wishful thinking!!

Hah! I can outwishful think Rustican anyday, I was a Cray laptop with Hyperlight WiFi and DVC (direct visual cortex) graphics. With a supermicro black hole for the power source.

Of course you can cram an FX into a laptop, it might be a tad thicker than some and the battery life might suck, but then that's the description of an 8890.

It would help a little, of course, if they got rid of some of the less useful items, like the mp3/6-1 reader port, the serial, parallel and ps/2 ports, the floppy drive, the audio DJ, etc, etc, as all of those can easily be replaced with external peripherals.

I don't really see why it wouldn't be possible to have an Athlon-64 FX, because it is a desktop proccessor, as well are all the Intel processors in Sagers. It is just a matter of building a computer around the processor.

I emailed PCT about Athlon64 in a notebook, they said they might consider AMD if it out performs Intel.

That's right! The Athlon-FX is king when compared to a P4 and in most cases it will even outclass the P4 Extrem Edition (Expensive Edition) And the Athlon_FX is better in the long run since it can run the 64bit applications in the future.

Even the Athlon 64 is an awsome gameing chip in its own right. I wish there were more vendors selling an Athlon solution. I don't like the HyperSonic or the Voodoo notebooks. And i'm still waiting to see if MichalesComputers is legit.

Yeah! I really hope Sager starts to use the Athlon 64! Ohhh! Imagine an Athlon 64 w/ the M11 256Meg! I'd instantly get it!

And i would instantly upgrade (though, i would love it if they could use the same chassis....)

It would be awsome if they could put the Athlon-fx in the 4780 chassis. With the wide screen and the m11/256 meg it would be a dream come true!

Does anyone know if the Athlon-FX produces less heat than a P4 chip?

Unfortunately the Athlon64 still lags behind the P4 in content creation programs, 3ds max etc.

Unfortunately, by the time an Athlon-FX w/ M11 256mb comes out, new news about an M12 in development will make you think twice- AGAIN. It's a never ending cycle, you can't expect to have the best all the time unless you want to pawn away your life earnings on just computer hardware.

I think Sager is currently in a position where they are looking at customer satisfaction/wants. Most people buying their laptops probably wouldn't really care whether it was AMD or Intel, as long as it was fast. And quite frankly, given an FX and a P4 side by side running standard applications, no one would tell a difference. So why bother engineering an completely new platform with very little visible performance gain over a current design? It would only be more money for the consumers to pay for...

Nothing is perfect in the world, I'm a supporter of AMD, but I didn't care about getting a P4 laptop, because it would have been just as fast as any laptop.

I agree with you. The Athlon does lag behind on content creation. It seems that the P4 chips still have the advantage in audio and vidoe encoding. Only time will tell though if a new 64 bit OS and 64 bit drivers will allow the Athlon_FX to be all it can be.

As far as memory management goes though, the Athlon is a speed demon. And in games, it bests the P4EE in its fair share.

But as it stands currently the Athlon-FX can more than hold it's own on today's benchmarks and games against the Pentiums. The diffrence between the Athlon-FX and the P4EE is future potential. The 64 bit future is a place that the P4EE can't go.

Check out this link for some benches. The results don't really show a clear leader only that, the race between the two chips is neck and neck.

Wouldn't battery life be better in Athlon 64-FX than a P4EE? I know battery life is pretty good in just a regular Athlon 64. Would there be a HUGE difference in battery life between a Athlon 64 and a Athlon 64-FX?

what about the whole heat issue... i don't know much about the athlon 64's but my 2600+ is a hothead... would never put it in a laptop?

Are you saying that Athlon 64-FXs are too hot or just Athlon 64s in general are too hot?? Well, they do already have Athlon 64 in laptops - so apparently heat isnt an issue. Also, people keep saying that Prescotts are too hot and the P4-EE is too hot.... well, they both are going in laptops too. So I doubt there is a big heat issue w/ Athlon...........

no i was asking if the 64's in general are hot, my only knowledge is that their predecessors (the althlon xp, i'm talking about anyway) are kinda hot. was just curious.
