I called Dell to cancel the installation service but they told me that would void my 7800's warranty! Anybody had this problem???

I just waited until they called me. Your installation will be delayed and Dell will send some goofy email about FTC rules requiring your authorization to continue with the order...that same day, some Indian person should call and ask if you want to cancel the installation order or 'continue with the delay'....tell them you want to cancel (which is what they want to hear anyway at this point), and 20 seconds later you're all set!

Alternatively, I would at least wait to call Dell until AFTER you've already refused the install (i.e. when the Techdude contractor calls your house to see if you're going to be there, just tell him you don't need the install...he'll register this with Dell as 'no service provided' or whatever and THEN you can call Dell and say 'I've been charged for a service I never received' if they don't automagically remove it from your account anyway)...

I would wonder what does that do to your warranty?

Has anyone done such a thing and then later asked for warranty work to be done? At the time of doing the work surly they will look up your service tag and see what has been done to your system in the past.
It would suck to find out after something breaks and need warranty work that you have voided your warranty.

This is not a rhetorical question. I don’t know the answer which is why I am asking.

Holly Molly I just got my go7800 GTX also Dell just shipped it on 16 Nov and I got on the 17th. Wow an overnight delivery Mark really hooked me up good It's dancing time now were are my tools - hehe

Well yesterday I got 2 phone calls and an email that my card was delayed. today I go home for lunch and there is my card waiting for me.

By the way my was packed great in a nice box so it had no damage.
Also I placed my order with Mark on the 3rd.

I can report the exact same story, 2 phone calls to inform me my order is delayed, I ordered on the 3rd from mark and I got the card today. I installed it, followed the bios guide and it's up and running so smoothe. I'm lovin it.

I honestly didn't think that installing a part yourself voided your warranty; however, you are right in asking the question, certainly, since Dell charges up the wazoo for any kind of warranty coverage. I got a 90-day warranty on my XPS2 to save money, so there was no warranty left when I ordered the card, lol...thus, your question never even occurred to me.

Sucks, I wanted a 90 day warranty, but my mother Forced me to get a 4 year warranty as she said it was the only way I was going to be able to re-sale my laptop down the road. So yeah I'm covered to 2010. Will the 9300 still be around then?

you get a one year warranty on the new card (which is important if your laptop one has expired) and then it follows the laptop warranty

at least in canada anyway, thats what they quoted to me when I ordered with my service tag, which is 9300

I wouldnt worry about it

Wow, yeah, that's great! So the one year warranty on the card itself is valid regardless of whether you install it or Dell installs it? I think that's the main question...

The card is well packed in a smaller box and protected by foams. Even the software CD and installation manual have a seperate box and foam. Not like some other people said came "naked"

I just talked to my wife and my 7800 is at home waiting for me. I asked if it looked damaged and she said no, it looks fine, so hopefully my card will be in good shape.

To bad I won't get to put it in my laptop until late tomorrow night or Saturday.

no one even brought up the subject of getting a tech to install it

Dell canada have won me over, such a more positive experience than when I bought the laptop, which was chaotic

ps when ever I ring now and get thru to india, I simply hang up and call during normal canadian business hours to get thru to canadians, they are more efficient at all levels

$149 bucks for install (I think I read here) for unscrewing 11, 7 then 4 screws is nice work if you can get it

I dont know why the cards were so cheap here neither, but I'm celebrating the fact. Mine (and I was standard, others got it cheaper) was $389cdn with tax etc, and with selling my 6800 etc I got the upgrade for $170cdn. Not much at all. If only my 130watt adapter would arrive!

I received my card today from Dell although it still shows in-process on the Dell site

The right-hand cooling fin was slightly bent and had to be bent back, no problem.

I installed the card this afternoon and everything appears to be working fine.

My benchmark: Everquest 2 seems quite a bit faster!

Now if I can just get my installation dollars back !
