The problem is that the new XPS may not have the same video card module design. I hope it does.
The word on the street (and in the press) is that Direct X 10 will be released alongside Windows Vista. Maximum PC estimates Vista and DX 10 late next year (Novemberish).

I think the MXM system will still be around in a year. The problem is that P-Ms are not wunderchips. In 12 months plugging such a graphics card in might be tantamount to putting an SLI 7800GTX setup into a system with a Celeron/Sempron CPU.

The limiting factor for the XPS is the CPU socket - not MXM.

I too ordered a 7800Go yesterday from Mark. He was great, and helped me out. I just hope I can get the $78 bucks back from Customer Service since I'll install it myself. The funny thing is that I just ordered my 9300 and already ordered this card and a 1.7 400Mhz Dothan and am expecting delivery of my laptop today.
I just have a problem with buying stuff and can't stop myself from upgrades, but I really look forward to this one.

How could they know if you sold it anyway? Are you gonna call them back and order another?

And DX10 is so pimp, but 100% correct, looking at today's game engines (source for example), we need beefier CPU's. Graphics cards can put up a pretty picture, but if you dont have the processing horsepower to pump on the AI/physics calculations for realistic physics and complex AI on several NPCs, your FPS are still gonna tank.

BlueAqua, you have an XPS2 and just ordered a 9300? Or did they not request a service tag for comfirmation? Eh, I wish I had time to mod my lappy, damn college is taking too much time away from my hobbies

I am getting a 9300 and will have to order a power brick and new battery too I guess. I don't have a XPS2. Mark didn't ask me for a service tag, I even told him I was going to install it in my 9300, and he said, "yeah they're the same thing anyways". He was real cool and woudn't hesitate to call him back.

Hrm...left a message for Mr. Lenning a couple hours ago, but he hasn't called back...any other success stories from doing this? He really doesn't care that 4,000,000 people are calling his office directly?

He seemed enthusiastic about it seeing as he probably gets bonus wage for selling Dell Preferred Membership Accounts.

Okay, yeah, this guy is great...everybody KEEP CALLING him, because he is one GREAT GUY...he set me up with a Dell Preferred Account and sent the confirmation email right away...card should ship on or before November 10th!! $374 with a 3-card limit per-person...he also answers emails, but he said while we were talking (about 10 minutes) he had received 21 emails and 8 voice mails, so just keep calling him...he'll be there another 3 hours or so...

Thanks Jeff and Mark Lenning rocks!

Glad to see evreyone getting their cards. And yes mark is by far the best and most knowledgable parts person I have ever seen at Dell. And he is a gamer also so he is up to date and on top of things and on top of that just a all around nice guy.

Man I've called about 10 times and only gotten voice mail... left a message a couple of hours ago and no call back yet. What's the secret?
I called him and left a message, he called back about six hours later. He seems to be a busy man
post #59 of 306
The secret is to NOT leave voicemail, and keep calling back until you get him. He's OVERWHELMed, but WILL service you if you catch him between calls.

BTW, I know Mark knows what he's doing but why does my order keep calling the card "7800 ULTRA", and nothing on my order confirms that I mean the LAPTOP card, even tho I said that to him and we talked about these forums and how I said he's famous here, haha.

I'm sure he got it right, I'm just a little, eh, worried - I don't wanna wait then have some pimple faced mofo deliver me a desktop card, y'know?
