I got to start looking at a laptop to buy, and i need portability. I dont want to spend a fortune but would like a powerful rig. Looks really mean nothing. I mean, i could get a lesser model ferrari 4000, but it seems its not that great running programs. Any suggestions?

Asus Z70Va? $1935 before tax and shipping will get you 2.0GHz Pentium-M, 1GB ram, 80GB 5400rpm, DVD+/-RW, bluetooth and XP Home at CanadaSys.

z71v ? :P

always consider the msi 1029, asus z70va and uniwill 259en3.

MSI are not available in Canada ..

Go to Canadasys the Markham location, also the laptops you wanna check out are:

Z70va number 1 choice
Z71v good price for performance
W3V nice and portable
and their DTR the Z81SP and Z83v

Other than that... most other brands offere quite expensive gaming units... you can try HP and the Dv4000, lots of people are getting that and i hear decent things about it. (i personaly have not exactly checked it out.

First u gotta chose your screen size.

Thanks,

i couldnt care how much it weighed, i dont mind the small / big screen. I see the Asus Notebook Z81Sp , any thoughts on that? Nice graphics card and easy upgraded ram? Or are there better options.

dell 9300 w/ coupon, though im sure if any good ones are available at the moment. Its graphics card (6800 go) is nearly twice as powerful as the x700

I don't think there are coupons anymore for Dell Canada. And when they did have them, they were usually only like $100 off (selected models).. nothing great

The best value now is probrably the Asus 70va/71v, acer 4402, msi1029 (shipped from the states), or the Toshiba M70 w/ 256 x700 (see above post)

Maybe Go6800 ~= 1.45x X700 is more accurate...=)

Yup.

also try the sager 5720 if you wanna go all out(and overbudget)

dell wouldve been a good option, but without coupons they are way overpriced.

Edit: the gfx cards in the two dlinkin posted are going to be a lot slower than the two i mentioned. im not sure what those prices mean compared to the competition, but unless you are getting a really good deal, youll want to get the newer cards.

Powerful video card, but because of it and the Pentium 4 it weighs nearly 9 lb! Not exactly portable, and battery life is going to be low.

For $2000 CAD, DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS THAN A GEFORCE GO 6600 OR MOBILITY RADEON X700

I see lots of people reccomending notebooks with a 9700 or slower. These do not belong in gaming notebooks. There are many choices of reasonably weighted notebooks with 6600/X700 for under $2000 canadian. Getting something slower for the same price is just stupid.

I've been pricing z71v notebooks for friends, and $2032 canadian before tax gets you a 2.13ghz processor, 1GB of ram, a 120GB hard drive, etc. And of course it comes with a 6600.

Drop down the CPU to 2.0ghz and suddenly you're paying less than $2000 AFTER tax.

I suggest you look at http://shoprbc.com. They're in Ottawa, and if you're outside Ontario (I'm in Montreal) you do not pay provincial sales tax. Only federal (7%). They also have super cheap shipping and cheap warranties. Price a Z71V with them.

No matter who you buy from, no matter what notebook you choose, if you are going to spend $2000, do not get anything less than a 6600/X700.

its true, dont accept anything less than one of those cards... but seriously look at the toshiba the extra 128mb of video ram over the other options will make a difference...
