Help, With New FC4 Server install

Hi all, I am about to install a FC 4 on a old P3 800mhz machine. I have a Few Questions that I need some answers to.

The First- how do I get my Linksys Wireless Router to allow my server to name all the DNS enteries instead of my router. (I all ready read how to set up a bare-Bones Server using this site http://www.simpaticus.com/linux/bare...ver-howto.php). How do I display and/or access my DNS server from the web. What would be the best way to set that up? Maybe using a program called http://www.barefootinc.com/ipmonitor.htm would that help?

Second- How do I tell windows to log into that Linux Server (Stores all the account information on that system, I know Windows Server NT, 2000, 2003 can)? And how would I set up so that all my request for the internet go through the server, would I need to pick up another NIC or a Server NIC for Example Intel Pro/100S Server Adapter or Intel PRO/100+ Dual Port Server Adapter and run the Cable Modem through the server then back to the router or using a 3COM COREBUILDER 3500?

Third- How would I set up new laptop (see below) (when I get it) to be a super client access (Admin User tha can log in via web/maybe dialup) (using either Windows XP Pro x64 or FC 4) that can log into that server to get the Current DNS Address and/or Current IP Address. I will be using this as a travel computer so I can access files stored on my systems at home from half-way around the world I would use this as a private server not a public FTP/Web Server.

Fourth- What file format should I do for the below system, from all the info that I gather linux can read a NTFS file system but thats it. Should I go with a FAT32 files system so that both my Windows XP Pro x64 and Linux FC 4 can read or should I do something else. Yes my system will be a Duel boot system. (But I am waiting for my system to get shipped so I can do my installs.) I also have a copy of PQ Magic (Can use the Boot Program) or do you recommend sticking with the Linux boot program

Any help would be welcome

Thanks

Nathan

PS Please don’t flame spray me, I am new at this and can learn very fast
I also maintain a NAS Drive using Linksys Network Storage Link with the frist drive at 200 GB (I store all programs files and backups on this drive to minimize storage on my Laptop. Current one is the 8790.

dont know much about networking, so can't help you there.

filesystem wise. you want to install linux on RaiserFS. Your windows should probably be on NTFS, however, what you might wannad o is have a 3rd partition thats FAT32 where you can keep all your files to be shared among the 2 OSes.

That said, your hardware is pretty old, and i highly suggest not installing FC4 because its a DOG. I mean, FC4 is one heavy duty distro that is bugged down pretty bad on slower systems. Highly advise you try some other distros that are more speed-oriented such as Vector, Yoper, or Kate OS

DNS and DHCP are both server daemons. A simple caching DNS isn't too bad. DHCP is simple as well. As for the linky just turn off the dhcp server on it. Why would you want to access your DNS from the out side. Zone transfers can be nasty. Also you need to check your ISP's TOS and AUP for their stance on servers. They can at the least cut you off.

What do you mean log on?

Again what do you mean?

Is this a dual boot or what? If not, it doesn't matter if they can read each other's native filesytem. You will most likely be using Samba for file shares that does the translation.

I don't want you take this as a flame job. You're using very vague terms in the world of networking. I do networks and VOIP for a living and you just confused the crap of me. I ask those those questions only to get more info to get an idea of what you are trying to do.
One more question for you. When you say you have all programs on the NAS are you referring to the install media or the app itself?
