Okay here is the scenario... Laptop will power on with blue light on, harddrive will spin up and recently was able to get the dvd drive to spin up. All the while no display on screen. Battery will charge up fine and runs on battery or ac no problems.

External monitor will not work and I know the LCD is fine because since having this problem the laptop has booted 1 time and froze at the windows countdown screen. (something shorted out)

While the computer is running if I shut the lcd screen computer will continue to run instead of shutting down like it usually did prior to problem. Speculation: I thought this may be some kinda of switch somewhwere that signals when the lcd is lifted or shut but I can not find a switch anywhere.Anyone know how this works?

Finally it has been in a local repair shop (waste of my money) and they said probably needs a new system board. Should have known thats what they were going to say.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Oh yeah this computer died 2 days after warranty expired Toshiba wouldn't even discuss any possible fixes since warranty had expired.(not that it would have done any good, but it's the principal of the fact)LOL I was hoping they would have offered me the extended warranty but no such luck.

Well if the LCD and the Ext monitor also doesn't work it might be the graphics card. Or you might have something with the LCD's power converter. When I made my lappy (from a 4200 and a 4030) fist time it didn't onet to power the LCD. I took out the convertor from the 4200 in which I was shure it works and actually did.

Sorry for the warranty! It happend to me with my CD-RW from my desktop. IT is really annoying...

The video card seems to be the likely problem but these are some easy things to do. Chances are that the computer store tried this already but why not try yourself. Take the starup cd and place in cdrom and see if it will boot on it. Take the memory out and reinsert. If you have 2 memory cards take one out ...try to boot. Switch cards and try to boot on other card. Memory is usually easy to get to on back of computer. You can also try to reinsert the LCD connection on the motherboard.
This page might help in finding the LCD connection to the motherboard:
