Where is Ratmyr and what's the deal?

Greetings all.

There may be some who are wondering what happened to me and why I haven't been online as frequent as I was several months ago. I just wanted to take a couple minutes to bring everyone up to speed.

First, if you haven't heard, my system was sent in for an upgrade while I was moving from Europe back to the states. During the transit to the states, the US Postal Service "misplaced" the system. This occurred around 20 August or so. Since then, I have filed a claim with the post office, but as of yet, I have not received any update or nor idea of what they are doing. I do feel, however, that there is a postal worker out there enjoying their new system.

In any case, because of the move, and not having my system with me, my online time has been quite limited. I am working on fixing this, but still waiting to be reimbursed by the USPS before I can purchase a new system. $5k is a lot to throw down after this major move.

However - I do have a major dilema. It isn't about the company, as Hypersonic will end up being the source for my next system. The dilema is that I am not sure if the notebook is the route for my next system. Since I will not be travelling a lot with my new job, the appeal of one of their OCX systems (desktops) is driving me a different location.

So... I haven't decided on whether I am going with the OCX or the EX7/FX7. Each day I look at both. But I should be making a decision shortly and better hear back from the USPS shortly as well.

In any case - I am still a die-hard Hypersonic owner - even though at this time, I have no system. But I am still typing on a Hypersonic keyboard and using a Hypersonic mouse. That counts, right?

If you will not be traveling, get the liquid-cooled desktop! My ALX SLI is still the King of the house and will remain so even with the FX7. Personally, I think you need one of each and in matching colors. I have a matching laptop for my ALX (both in Saucer Silver with black eye accents). You cannot achieve the rank of uber geek without one of each. I would love to have a Hyper desktop although my recent DIY rig probably comes close for a home brew (who can match the talents of the Hyper pros anyways?).

What about the Red Python?

I was hoping to see that!!

All depends on the cost when I go to order. Like I said - depending on what I am reimbursed for, I may have to scrimp on the python and go with the red pearl. Will see when it gets closer.

As for DB's comments - I agree about the non-travel and what to go with. The OCX is with SLI'd 7800 GTX's, which I know will kick butt. I am trying to get my wife to agree with the laptop/desktop option. I don't think she is too keen on that.

You can hide that lappy under the bed she'd never know!!

I am giving my wife my two-year old AW laptop (and I just built her the AMD X2 4600 rig with a 7800 GTX and watercooling to top it off). The new laptop I need to keep up with the increasing development requirements if you know what I mean (.NET and such).

If you're thinking about getting a desktop, I would seriously consider OverdrivePC. All of their components are overclocked, and are covered by their warranty. They also have the best customer reviews I've seen for a boutique company. I was going to buy a desktop from them, but decided to get a quad G5 instead.

ratmyr, sorry to hear about your custom EX7. Id feel like a part of me was missing if I lost one of my systems like that. Hope it all works out good (and quickly). and...Hope you get the Red Python.

Overdrive has some serious machiines

But like a few pointed out in other sites, its for the extreme gamer who has the $$ to throw out there.

I had looked at them but it left me without many options. Yes you can do custom but you are limited in respect to who they deal with. At the end of the day you could say, wow for that much I can get a Falcon NW, and be OC'd as well with a few more options than OD offered. OR then again for the price I put out for one of their top of line custom machines I can probably get a Hyper OC AND a Lappy and be just as happy.

However what caught my eye was the dual X2 opteron processors. That alone when fully functional could cause serious power outages in small countries. I would have to OC my 115 to 220 and then move to Boulder Dam just to hook up direct. As of now according to THG dual (X2) is nice but to wait is better. And with the applications I would be using that for (Not gaming), I would be able to whittle Lord of Rings from 3 hours down to 5 minutes. Now to see what Intel has lined up.

Just curious by why dont you just build your own desktop rig? The only reason why im buying a laptop and not building my own rig is due to space and time constraints.

Have any of you ever looked at the voodoo line of desktops.

Anyway good to see your still kicking Ratmyr.

I build all of my desktop rigs. The only reason why I would consider buying one from Hypersonic is so that I can still sport their equipment. Kind of hard to convince people I know what I am talking about with Hypersonic when the only things I have to show right now is a mouse and keyboard. I ended up putting a Hypersonic desktop theme on the laptop I am using just so it appears that I am using a Hypersonic. Isn't that what HP stands for?

Seriously - it had crossed my mind though.

As for the Voodoo, I have seen those as well, but the OCX looks so much cooler and is priced much better than the Voodoo. Could be the way I am pricing it on their web, but after I build the dream machine - I sometimes pass out due to the price....
