AC adapter glitches

I was typing away on AIM tonight and noticed that my computer was running off the battery (it notified me at 10%); so I obviously began to check to see if the AC was giving my laptop juice, and it was connected like it should have been... The green light on the adapter was lit, n' everything. so I pulled out the laptop-end of the cord of the ac-adapter and put it back in. No effect. So I immediately shut down and moved the wire around a little bit. Once I straightened it out a little bit, it began recharging my laptop... Is my AC adapter beginning to whittle out? I sure hope if it is, the adapter's under warranty, heh.

Sure sounds like a loose pin, which isn't likely to heal itself. Trade that puppy in.

My power supply is doing the same thing. It's probably the little accordian connector where the cord exits the power supply (going to the computer). This seems to be the achilles heel of laptop power. I've had a large number of laptops of various brands and have seen even more that have the same problem. It's a pretty simple process to fix it yourself if it is out of warrenty. If you do it also a good idea to take the cord that comes out of the powersupply and tape one loop of it to the supply itself because it takes the stress off of the little point where it exits the power supply case.

That where I think, too. Over the past few days a few wire have actually started to fan out of the wire! I definitely am gonna have to turn this in tommorow (I have a 4 year warranty :-D). Thing is I don't wanna be without this too long. I think I'll ask'em how long it'll take.

But, after I get my new one, do you mean make the entry-point into the laptop a loop before it is inserted?

The loop I was talking about would be around the power supply. Where the power cord exits the converter, wrap it (loosely) around the power supply once and tape it, that way the stress isn't on that little accordion connector, which, as I said, is usually where the problem happens. I want to send in my power supply to have them fix it since it still under warrenty, but I can't go a week without my laptop right now. I'm working on rigging up another supply that I can use temporarily so I can send in the broken one.

Another option to wrapping the cord around the power supply is to just be really careful. Done pull the power supply around by the cord (this is a bad habit of a lot of people I've seen), and when packing the power supply, don't wrap the cord around the power supply tightly (it also helps to make sure there is no pressure on the accordion connector when you put it in your bag)

Tyrannous, why don't you talk to SAGER and have them cross ship the power supply. That's were you give them a credit card to guaranty the deal and they send you the item with a return shipping lable and then you ship them back the broken item. That way you are not down at all. Check it out.

Fire!!!

I thought I had figured out a permanent position to position the wire to keep it sending power to my laptop, but nay. As I was playing Medieval: TW, I saw smoke rising from behind my laptop... As I looking behind, the same place where the wire had become a little "fanned out" (the end of the wire right before it is inserted into the laptop), my eyes reached a small flame. I immediately turned off the power and stared at the wall. I hope this isn't my laptop's version of PMS.

DavidTDuke, I think you are at the RMA point. Email or call SAGER Tech and have them cross ship you a new adaptor. Do not use your damaged one, its a major fire hazard and potentially a danger to your laptop as well. They will cross ship the new part to you for the least down time.

Oh I've already got the RMA and ordered an extra ac adapter incase something like this happens again

I haven't actually shipped it yet - you're saying I can tell them I'm shipping it and they can ship it to me? They'll trust me? Or do I have to show a credit card #?

Technically, you need to provide them with a CC#. They won't charge you or even put a 'test' or pending charge on it unless they don't recieve the bad supply with a certain amount of time. I had my hard drive RMA'd awhile back and they held a CC# number. I'm not sure whose CC# it was as they never asked me for mine but they assured me they had one on file. I wasn't going to argure with them I just wanted my new hard drive.

Dang Beakmyn,

I wish you'd find out what the CC number is, I think we could all use it. Did you pay for the machine that way? or order anything else from them ever?

I think my dad'll let me use his cc#, as I'm only 18. I hope the ac that was ordered gets here before Christmas, but I doubt it (ordered from pctorque)
