57C GPU idle

Thread Starter
is this to hot. i have a pacific breeze cooler set on ll and the fan is on high at 3172rpm and my baby is still at 57C and thats bleedin idle.

I don't use any extra cooling (other than living in Scotland) and mine is idle at 55C...

That seems warm, but not dangerously so.
Maybe you've got something running that you're unaware of?
The Pentium M has a downstepping temperature of 99*C, and an auto-shut down temp of 125*C, according to their website.
So the CPU can handle fairly high temps. In my nooby opinion, the concern is really whether the motherboard on which it sits can handle those temps.

Have you looked in Task Manager to see what else might be running?
And do you have Intel Speed Stepping enabled? (That's in your BIOS.)
If it's disabled, the CPU stays at low speed. I do not know if that would make it run warmer while trying to handle more apps.

Mind is idle at 47c stock cooling. You're seems a bit high especially with extra cooling.

You might try reseating your heatsink because if it's seated incorrectly, it can do more harm than good. Especially if your thermal paste is on there too thickly.

Also, you haven't accidentally overclocked 2D mode have you?

Forceware drivers = Higher idle temps then the Dell drivers
post #8 of 29
True that. That's why i stick with the stock drivers.

Newer drivers do make the cards run a bit hotter BUT, a month or so ago I had similar problem except that I was using old drivers, my idle temp would be over 60 celsius. All I did was blow some compressed air and also use vaccum cleaner to suck out dust and hair, etc. That made my temp go back down to about 48 celsius. So basically dust really increases the temp if you don't clean it.

At 500C1250 overclock I run around 48C at idle, when I kick up to 500C1300 I come up to 50C. I don't offhand remember what my stock idle is, but I believe it was around 42C. I also don't have anything except stock cooling at the moment, other than a book propping up the laptop to get airflow underneath.

wow, thats pretty high. I just checked my GPU temp. My 9300 has been sitting idle for about 30 min. The temp is 37C. That low of an idle temp shocked me. my CPU is 28C. This also surprised me. I guess its because its the fall season and the temps outside are starting to drop. I live in Las Vegas and its not even 70F at noon. Also I have my windows open. (I like the cold) Hopefully the temps will continue to drop

are we talking cpu or gpu? I thought the question was regarding the gpu? Mine was idle at 56C. Pretty much like you. That's using older driver 77.70. I don't know why it's so hot. I wish it was cooler. 85C while running a game.

Why is your fan only spinning at 3170 rpm? Mine spins at 9000+ on low setting, and 11000 with high setting. Something wrong with your fan?

9000 rpm on low? and 11000 rpm on high? I think there is somthing wrong w/ur fan. On low my fan spin at 25xx and when high it spin from 31xx to 39xx. so your fan is spinning very high at 9000 rpm on low.

Shoman is right. The forceware drivers ten to give off more heat than others. I had post and ask many question myself why is my gpu idling at 57-58c when switching to other drivers beside using Dell drivers. But I guarantee you if you open up your console and clean off the heatsink and fan (if you haven't already) the idle temp. will drop down to 50c. I know because I did it then install the driver that I use to idle from 57-58c and it drop to 50c. But when using Dell driver I would idle around 46-47c after cleaning, before cleaning it would range from 50-55c on idle (using dell driver). So I hope this help

Which program do you use to read your fan speed?

My GPU idle temp. is 48-50 degree C, and 65 when I am playing games like FEAR for 2 hours.

I use I9fanGUI - Cpu idle at 28c -full load at 45c (undervolt 1.132), Gpu idle at 47c, full load after gaming is b/w 74-77c. No overclock. Xps Ultra no extra thermal grease.

my GPU is idling at 33C right now!!! then again my room is just frigging cold.

oh and underclocking 2D gpu/mem to lowest possible also helped the idle temp i guess.
