51m Programmers? Keyboard and Screen

Hey guys, I'm going to be ordering a 51m Extreme within the next couple of days, and I'm looking for programmers who are currently using a 51m.

The left ctrl key is a pretty important key for me, has anyone played around with key mappings to move the ctrl key to the outside of the Fn key? How's using the delete and end key at the bottom right of the keyboard? Any other key placement issues that you're aware of? Has anyone mapped the /| key next to the space bar to space?

How much do the dimensions of the laptop change between the 16.1" and the 15.4"? Is the 15.4" wider and shorter, or just wider? Has anyone had both in their sweaty hands at the same time to compare weight and size? Numbers can get a little meaningless when it comes to a dimension you haven't experienced..

Let me know

Ahhhh

That's where they put the speakers, I thought they might have done something like apple did and put the speakers beside the keyboard.. Ok, 16.1" it is.. I don't need no steeking speakers. Well, I won't have the volume up at work or at school, and I have speakers at home

Thanks Braingoo

Congrats man! Be sure to post your specs once you've been abducted.

I myself am a proud owner of the Silver Saucer finish. You won't be disappointed

yeah. the silver one is very very nice.
i figured the green might be very cool in the beginning, but after a year or two it must be very frustrating. and also, i´m a nice little graphics designer, and i don´t want any strange colours making my colourvision poor...

I picked the nvidia card for it's better driver support under linux
post #10 of 15
The exact setup I chose pollensoft, EXACTLY. Except, I chose the Nvidia card because I've had better experiences with the brand name. I'm only in phase 4 so not too far ahead of you. Let's hope we're both blown away by this sucker eh?

I'm sure we will This is my current setup for comparison (built by me):

AMD 1800+ (1.53GHz)
512M PC2700
80GB SATA HDD
52/24/52 Sony burner
52x creative reader
(blech) nVidia GeForce 2MX
2 Samsung 700IFT's
10/100
SB Live! Value
Sh***y speakers

As suggested above, I'm a programmer more than I am a gamer. I haven't been able to find my perfect job with my current qualifications so I've sold my house and I'm going back to university to get my degree. I'm gonna want a laptop to last me all the way through

I am a programmer and after I get my laptop I will look into changing the keys around if it gets in my way. I will just have to wait for my laptop first.

Hey guys, I just wanted to bump this thread to the top. There's a resource Microsoft is distributing for Windows 2003 server, it's just a bunch of handy tools. One of which is a keyboard remap tool.

Here's the link:
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools

It's not an install persay, it just extracts the files.

Should be very easy to remap keys with this (I think I will be swapping the ctrl and fn keys and setting the / beside space to act as space as well
post #14 of 15
at least the video card can be swapped cuz the ati 9600 runs directx 9x infinately better than the nvid
post #15 of 15
I program with this thing, and you get used to the key placement. its a bit wierd at first, but you get used to it.

Stick with NV, its the bettrer option till the ATi 9700 or NV 5700 come out.
