5720 / 5320 chirping

Thread Starter
I just got my 5720 and it has what I believe is the same headphone chirping sound as the 5320. I got rid of the sound on my machine by going into Device Manager and disabling the 'IrDA Fast Infrared Port'.

Could someone who has reported the chirping please confirm this.

*CONFIRMED*

I have a 5320.

I just disabled my IrDA Fast Infrared Port in the windows Device Manager and there is NO MORE chirping.

what exactly is the IrDA Fast Infrared Port?
IrDA Fast Infrared Port is a port very much like the remote control for your TV it sends out an infrared signal (mostly to laser printers or PDA's) which then allows bi-directional communitcation of your lappy and said device.

ok thats good. any one else want to confirm it please?!!

Confirmed, on my 5320.

Although I'd say disabling one subsystem in order to make another one work properly is a hack rather than a solution.

woops, ADD strikes again!! Starting getting pissed at my wireless not working upstairs (while fixing the chirp) and found some interesting settings that seem to be making a HUGE diff.. But that is another post

HALLELUGEH BROTHERS AND SISTERS
THE %^%$%^& CHIRP IS GONE

Now if we can fix the sensitivity on the damn touchpad I might throw a party!!

Confirm

I had the same chirping noise while I was playing Warcraft. It was very annoying. After disabling the IrDa it is gone..I'm not crazy after all. Now the voices I heard are a different story. What do I disable to make them stop

you just need to remove your medulla oblongata. its a relatively simple procedure....

Sp

Does microsoft release a service pack to help in the removal of my medulla oblongata.

Edit: Has anyone found a reason for the chirping noise..It must have somthing to do with IrDa sending out a signal or something

its so regular I will take an uneducated guess that the IR is sending a signal checking for devices. A little electomagnetic interfernce. I wonder if there is a setting that can change the frequency (timing) of the IR check, or the frequency (wavelength) of the device. Might poke around later....

disabling the IrDa in the bios setup will be much beter
