Hello again all.
This morning, pretty pleased with myself after getting up early and deciding to be productive, I broke my lappy's screen. Totalled. The backlight was flickering, which is barely noticeable except with a bright background on-screen. And just jigging the screen usually stops it for a while.
This morning I was a little overenthusiastic, and stuck my thumb in the corner, bending the corner towards me with my palm. Stop flickering, dammit! Crunch.
"Cobweb" doesn't begin to describe the broken mess that is half my screen, now unworkable.
Oops. The lappy's two years old, and things were breaking more frequently than they used to, but still.
Anyway, I managed to get a quote on a replacement screen here in the UK pretty quick. [Censored for hugeness] including labour. A significant portion of a brand new powerhouse lappy - and that's not even counting the three-week waiting period.
I think buying a brand new external LCD would be cheaper, and I'm right. Dell.co.uk has 20" widescreens for less.
But I think I'll get something a little cheaper.
Anyway, this is a long-winded way of asking what the name / class / type of monitor adapter there is on the back of the 8890, and whether or not most external screens these days will plug into it.
My monitor adapter plug is white, with three long rows of holes on the right, and a square of four holes at the left, with a cross in the middle of the square of four. I remember that it does *not* fit my ancient CRT monitor's cable, which is blue and a different shape.
Also:
Assuming I got a compatible monitor, would my ATI 9600 m cope? Would my lcd automatically power down?
Any lcd monitor buying advice?
Thanks!
