As far as the motherboards go, I would think that current mobos would not be compatible with Prescott. You have to remember, Prescott, with its entry-level 5.2GHz speed, is predicted to run on a 800MHz bus. As Yale said, they are going to try and keep the industry alive by forcing people that want this new stuff to keep buying all new parts to have the new processors. A new processor comes out and it gives the industry a shot in the arm, making people buy new mobos, RAM etc to utilize the new processors.
I for one am looking forward to the next, say, three years.
It is going to be interesting. The industry is going to make more leaps forward in the next three years than they have in the last 10 years. Think about it, 10 years ago I joined the Air Force, I was working with a 486SX/25 with a whopping 24-meg of RAM and a 500-meg hard drive. I was in heaven. People envied me. Now, 10 years later I am working on a 2400MHz CPU, with 768-meg of RAM and 120GB of harddrive space. And in 3 years I will be working with over 10,000MHz of CPU speed. TEN THOUSAND MEGAHERTZ!!! It is amazing...
Oh well...
