Ok guys so I didn't order my laptop with the bluetooth chip and now I'm wishing I would have so what I'm wondering is does anyone know of step by step instructions on how to do this with pics? Also is it very hard? It is the 350 chip I need right? How much does the chip run for and where can I get it for the cheapest? Thanks ahead of time for all the help you guys have been great!

There should be instructions on how to install it in the owners manual (on the computer).

flip the laptop over and take the battery out, in the inside of the battery compartment on the vertical far side is a little plastic cover. remove that and pull the tab plug out and pug it in and reverse the order.

I got mine on ebay for about $25 shipped. I use it for dial up internet on my cell phone. I can also move files like ringtones and wallpapers between my phone and computer with it.

how much does it end up being after shipping? Whats the number?

I guess this connector inside the battery compartment is just an USB with some extra wires (hardware detection, power?, etc. ?). Is there anyone who know which color is what?

I just called the spare parts dept, and this is the quote they sent to me in an email:

TOTAL QUOTE AMOUNT: $24.95
Product Subtotal: $13.95
Tax: $1.01
Shipping & Handling: $9.99
Shipping Method: Ground Total Number of System Groups: 0

SOFTWARE & ACCESSORIES

Product Quantity Unit Price Total
Card,Wireless,Internal Bluetooth,350 (X5166) 1 $13.95 $13.95
Warranty Longer of 90 Days or Remainder of System Warranty/ Svc Contract. 21 Day Return. Parts may be Reconditione (11725) 1 $0.00 $0.00

Number of S & A Items: 2 S&A Total Amount: $13.95

Originally she tried to tell me that shipping was $14, but that she could qualify me for $9.99 shipping and handling. For $11.95 plus reasonable shipping I'd buy it though...

i saw on the forums that there is 2 different product numbers for the bluetooth chip whats the difference and which one should I get?

Called dell spare parts and they say it is out of stock with no forecast on when it will be coming back in stock (the rep said and I quote "it could take a week, a year, two years...yes it can take as long as two years for something to come back in stock it all depends on the warehouse" what they do have in stock is $100+

They gave me a number to Fox Micro (972) 690-1590 and they do not have the part either.

So is there any other way to get this for the $13.95 price still?

edit - Called back and got another rep. this time I checked out part numbers W9242 and X5166, netiher are in stock and both are refurbished (makes no difference to me but it might to some) W9242 is now $25 in their system and X5166 is $13.95, she sent me an email quote and a more resonable lead time of 2-3 wks.

The only good to come of this is now I have an actual quote so I can enter my quote/customer # into dell's site and order online...when it is in stock, guess I'll just be checking it out every couple of days in hopes that it will come back in stock.
