Service Pack 2='s Kiss of Death?

Hi all,

I know this issue came up a while back, but I can't seem to find anything recent via the search function.

Tried holding off the SP2 update, finally did it, and all I get is a black screen. Any ideas folks?

It boots.. you can access the bios just fine.. the white cursor can be seen and moved around.. but everything is pitch black.

Try it with an external monitor or try safe mode. If you can get in why not uninstall sp2. Or reload with a slipstreamed XP install.

I haven't had a problem w/ it. I'm on my 2nd time having it installed on my 8790 and it seems to work just fine on my 9300. My AMD 3400+ desktop seems to be ok w/ it, too. As does my old Sony FX-120 laptop.

YMMV w/ SP2. Not everyone has horror stories. Hopefully you can get squared away on the problem. Wonky driver error or something? That's screwy. Have you tried the external monitor bit yet? Hope that gets you on the way to being up and running.

Did you install any of the drivers from Windows Update? That may have been a problem, although I don't think WU has ATI drivers.

And this was directly after installing SP2?
