I have had my M170 about a week and the light leakage is about 2in. along the bottom of the screen. It seems lighter when cold booting, but then in windows it is more noticeable. If it is going to go away, I don't mind keeping it. But, if it is not I would like another screen. That is why I put up the poll. And, yes I have read all the other topics, but have not seen a poll. I also don't want to send back the laptop and wait for another one to arrive since this one has nothing else wrong with it and performs great. I really can't be without a laptop right now. Also if your leakage went away, could you tell me how long it took? Any help is appreciated. If you don't like the post, you don't have to reply. Thanks in advance.

My 3rd replacement was great. Standard light leakage at the beginning but after 3 days, it pretty much went away completely.

Mine says SEC and then some numbers. I guess that means Samsung.

SEC = Samsung, LPL = LG Philips.

It will go away but not totally, all lcd panels have some light leakage, as for having your screen for a week? its going to take four or five weeks to notice a significant difference depending on usage. I would also like to point out that the screens with heavier light leakage are actually much brighter overall than those with minimal light leakage.
Mine was terrible on my samsung screen, IM glad that I kept it!!

samsung on mine and it rocks, had minor light leakage on the bottom when i got it at first but its gone now.... i love the screen very nice no sparkles no dead pixels... what more could you want...

my first lappy is LG had 2 deadpixels, dell sent me another lappy with samsung so i had a week to play arround with both, LG has better color(blues are bluer, reds are reder, etc), the samsung is brighter, LG is a bit too dark if in a bright room. Samsung has more light leakage than LG, but if you turn down the brightness level down on a samsung it'll be comparable to an LG on light leakage. Overall i like my samsung better.

I had significant light leakage on my samsung when i got it. Now 2-3 months down the track, its almost gone. Its only noticeable from unusual angles.

I think another option is in order: " I had light leakage, it didn't go away but it seems to have gotten a little better (or I got used to it)."

I turned my brightness down one notch from the top. That has made a difference. The leakage doesn't seem as bad and my eyes don't hurt now.

yup, that's why people seem to have less leak on LG displays, because LG's top brightness is comparable level 6 on a samsung.

Check out the above link for great color profiles to use on your samsung lcd panels, they will look every bit as punchy and colorful as those lg screens.

I had the same xperience as dinkenstein and agree totally.I had a ssung heaps of lleakage & a dpixel rep came over & changed it to a LG still a bit of lleakage but i like these screens heaps more, nice colours, yes a bit darker but its just my personal pref that i like this LG more compared to the ssung i had.
