It looks promising esp. they dont charge on shipping within the warranty period, which is the first I have seen so far.

All Shipping Charges Paid

For Any Needed Service If for any reason during the 3 year coverage period your system needs to be serviced, FutureTop will pay for shipping both ways -- just give us a call toll free and we will arrange for your system to be picked up by your local FedEx courier and sent to us for service.

http://www.futuretop.net/3yearplan.html

If that is true...I hope there is more information on this or similar resellers like this...

However, I would like to get first hand information so I emailed their company to join the discussion.

I am unfamiliar with the company, so If naybody knows them or has done business within. Do tell of their reputation...

And the forum is still open for addition of other resellers of Sager notebooks and your comments on customer service...
You might want note that that is only if you get their extended warranty which is at a cost.

Thanks Luke for the info... I did not know the price...
In line with that, what is the price of PCTorque, Warrantech, Philips extended warranty... now that you mention it...

I was not about to discuss price on the thread so as not to induce a price war but since it was now mentioned....
It would only be fair and impartial to mention the price of the other extended warranty option
s as well...

Also with regards to the other inquiries in the previous posts ...

1. Does PcTorque sell retail version of Windows OS?

2. If yes, does it cost the same as in store?

And also as follow-up to the warranty Discussion...with regards to policies posted in http://www.pctorque.com/policies.php

1. Does the Repair Transit Coverage (info for first year of ownership coverage ONLY) still existent?
For US and International?

2. How long is the coverage of the Repair Transit Coverage?

3. I understand you mentioned before that PCTorque has no lemon policy in place.
Does the Repair Transit Coverage cover multiple returns for repair?
Multiple returns for exchange?

4. I understand that PCTorque have their own Extended Warranty now.
Who covers the cost of shipping for the PC Torque 1,2,3 or 4 year extended warranty?
For US and International?

We frown on price discussion, as it does promote price wars. I brought it up because you post implied that it was an included option with the notebook. It is only with the purchase of an extended warranty.

The price is not included in the laptop, of course... It is like all other resellers, one has to buy the extended warranty...

But going back....
It would only be fair and impartial to mention the price of the other extended warranty options as well...

There would be a false belief that it is high coz it is the ony mentioned price...
If there are comparisons presented, then the statement that it is high would trully be true...

So to maintain the fairness and impartiality of the thread, the price of the extended warranty should be also mentioned

By the way... I am not affiliated to that company or to any company for that matter as mentioned in my initial posts......
It was just mentioned in the other forum that is why I posted it here. To be included as one of the resellers...

Phillips Warranty

I figured i'd add my 2 cents about the add-on Phillips warranty. I bought my 5680 2 yrs ago from PCTorque (great place to buy from) and had a couple of issues which Sager fixed quickly. I then fell outside the Sager warranty and into the Phillips warranty. I had a couple more problems with my lappie (failed HD, having to boot it twice to get it to come up) and had to engage Phillips.

This is the point where it gets ugly. With the exception of two support people, Phillips (really ServiceNet) was one of the worst warranty companys I've ever dealt with. The first time I sent my laptop in, they had it for over a month. Come to find out, the laptop support contracter they used was owed money and wouldn't release my laptop until ServiceNet (Phillips) payed them. I get the laptop back, they said they replaced the MB, but the HD was still dead....so I send it back to ServiceNet but to a different subcontracter now. It comes back with a new HD, but now the MB is still having the same original problem (not booting consistently). At this point ServiceNet promises to replace my laptop, but I try to get ahold of a supervisor to get this taken care of and I get no calls back. After about 20 hours of my time and two months of no laptop, trying to get ahold of someone who can clear up the issue, I finally get them to commit to replacement. At this point, they attempt to lowball me with a low level Sager that in no way compares to my 5680. Another 3 days goes by while I walk them through my 5680 specs and point out the closest comparable lappie. Finally, I just get them to cut me a check for the replacement.

I used the check to buy a Dell 9300. I did this not because I don't enjoy Sager (I love it), not because I don't like PCTorque (great support, Adam & Luke rock) but because the extended warranty was the worst experience I've ever had. In all the talks w/ one of the Phillips employees, he told me about how poorly it is run and how bad the customers complain because their management balks at getting engaged in customer issues. I honestly believe that the only reason I finally got them to do something is because I had to threaten legal action.

Again, PCTorque ROCKS!

Thanks Luke for maintaining the integrity of the thread...

So to make it clear...

1. The extended warranty is paid
2. There are resellers who charge shipping of defective laptops
and there are those that does NOT (at least one... but still awaitin first hand info from them.)

So trbrophy, with regards to Philips warranty, do you have to deal with them alone or do you have to talk to PcTorque first ?

As of press time... The futuretop.net has not replied to the email sent to them. It seems their email response time is not that fast as the other resellers.
I glance their website and they have no forum discussion.

So far only PCTorque.com, Discountlaptops.com and PowerNotebooks.com have forum discussion and swift email response...

Forum is still open for inclusion of other Sager resellers...

You deal directly with Philips...which is actually ServiceNet. I do not recommend them and would like to see PCTorque sell an alternate extended warranty.

Thank you for your input trbrophy. I believe the quote is from another thread.
Just read the other thread topics recently, been busy with Thanks Giving Sale
I understand that the current thread is a bit long, a table summary where you can look at a glance is preferred. It will be made as soon as I learn how to post a table(In MS Word) in the forum. So If anyone knows how...kindly post it here or pm me...

Anyways, In the current thread, as confirmed by Luke, the PCTorque's extended warranties are discussed In page 3, Post # 40 stating...

In a nutshell...
PCTorque doesn't offer the Philips warranty anymore, But instead has one of their own for U.S- based sales. The warrantech warranty is offered for International sales only (canada,Mexico, etc.)

From PcTorque policies on their website:

Only the central processing unit, internal keyboard, internal hard drives, and the computer's built in LCD are covered.

The hours of Support shall not include regular holidays which include New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. PC Torque is not liable for any failure or delay in performance due to any cause beyond its control.

So with regards to the covered parts for the warranty, it seems pretty limited (like motherboard is not stated.)

Trbrophy, What made you say that Philips warranty is not recommendable?
Can you tell more about this...?

I perceive you have some bad experience with philips... how does their policies differ with that of PCTorque extended warranty?

I speak solely from my experience which extended over two months and involved approximately 4 tiers of their management and support staff. Personal conversations with one of the employees I became friendly with (through my many calls) revealed that the employee's opinion of their management and business practices were just as low as the customers. Frankly, I will never purchase anything that is supported by ServiceNet (Philips) again. I don't have a problem working with a company who is having issues but wants to help...I do have a problem with a company that lets things slide for whatever reason.

One note....In the two months that I worked with them on my laptop, I NEVER received a proactive call to update me on the status of my laptop repairs...NOT ONE CALL. I had to call each and every time (minimum of 20 minutes waiting on hold in the queue each time).

PCTorque wierd restrictions

so, why does the pctorque warrenty not cover vital componets such as the motherboard, fans, lcd inverter, usb controller, and memory?

1. So would it mean that it will include all functioning components???

Just curious on one of the statements on the policy "not obligated to repair reasonable wear and tear..."

2. How does the repair technicians identify ordinary wear & tear? e.g. criteria for motherboard, memory, lcd, fans, ports...

coz like this anecdote by jenson04...
I had my Toshiba Satellite 5005-S504 for about 6 months when it started giving me problems, it kept on shutting down in the middle of games and then just shutting down whenever it felt like it. It was really annoying and after having bought the extended service plan from Best Buy for about $250-$300 and taking it to them twice and having them say that it was my fault and not covered under their warranty because it was my gamepad that was screwing it up (which btw was not my fault, it was the Satellite 5005 lawsuit problem which I am happy to report that I sent in my laptop and they sent me $1500 so I bought a new Satellite M60.) I am just hoping that the M60 will be much better than the 5005 was. The one thing I learned from that whole experience: Pentium III processor = Much heat, Much heat = bad thing: Therefore buy a M60 with a 2.00 GHz and a dvd burner that works! The 5005 cd burner never did burn a cd I believe.

the technician claims that the laptop has no defect eventhough there really was... so it seem fishy how some notebooks are returned to user still with defects...
so knowing how technicians tell that a problem is an ordinary wear and tear or a defect already?

Just thought of this scenario:
Customer bought a Sager laptop. Noticed a defect qualifying within the 10 day DOA policy...
3. If the customer receives a replacement laptop...Would the 10 days DOA restart on Day 0 again? (coz it is possible that the 2nd laptop has another defect)

4. Will the following void PCTorque extended warranty?
a. CPU upgrade
b. GPU upgrade
c. Memory upgrade
d. HDD change
e. Overclocking

1. I don't think it could be stated any better than you just did, wear and tear is not covered by ADP, it is covered by a normal warranty.

2. About hte best answer I can give you is they thoughly test all the components and determine from there, every case is different.

3. If you receive a defective laptop again the same applies as the 1st time.

4. We will not warrant a component we did not sell, and as such if the component causes the laptop to fail and or damages the laptop it will not be covered by your warranty. Changing out compnonets and breaking your notebook falls into the realm of willful damage and will not be covered.

To more specifically answer that question, if you chang out your HDD and your CPU fails... we will still replace your CPU.
Motherboards, fans, CPUs, RAM -type components do not incur wear and tear. Those parts are covered under the warranty for the term of the manufacturer or extended warranty period.

Examples of wear and tear items may be the casing or the keyboard.

ADP coverage does cover wear and tear items in the extended waranty period, but the standard extended warranty may not depending on the circumstance.

Exampe. The painted-on letters are scratched off a key after several years typing, then a replacement keyboard may not be covered under an extended warranty without the ADP coverage. But, an ADP claim can be made to have the keyboard replaced under the ADP provision.

Thanks Luke for the clarification

So from what you mentioned...
Changing out compnonets and breaking your notebook falls into the realm of willful damage and will not be covered.

to make it clear....
So for # 4:

a. CPU upgrade --void warranty
b. GPU upgrade ---void warranty
c. Memory upgrade ---(e.g. so adding memory module to increase from 512 mb to 2 gb ) ---void warranty
d. HDD change ---NOT void warranty
e. Overclocking --- (e.g. applying arctic silver) ----void warranty

IS THIS CORRECT???

By the way, Thanks also to Matt for clarifying the wear and tear... Coz the term seems vague to non-technicians.
