6600 or x700?

Looking at puchasing either NP5320-C with x700 and NP3880-C with 6600.

Has anyone run 3dmark05 on these systems? I need this lappy for business but I also play CS Source so gamewise thats all I need it to run.
After reading many posts on the 2 different laptops the 5320 with the X700 scores considerably higher in benches (due to the extra 256mb ram). But I believe the 6600 has better overclocking potential (if you are into OC'ing).

Do you know any exact scores?

I guess it would be due to double the memory. Anyone run CS Source on either of them? What kind of graphics settings will it either one of them handle in CS?

3880 2100 in 3dmark05 and 5320 2866 in 05. i have read at other forums that people are play HL2 and CS Source at max on the 5320.

Nice...thats what I like to hear. So I guess the x700 is the way to go. Anyone know of any coupons or anyway to get the price down. Looks like Im gonna pay right around $1500 direct from Sager.

I don't know whether it will help you or not, but when I ordered my 4750, I ordered it through discountlaptops.com , and my price ended up being about 1-200 dollars cheaper because of it (don't ask me how, I don't know). So maybe if you look around, at either the above mentioned site, or powernotebooks.com, or pctorque.com (the people who run this forum), you could possibly find a better deal. Also, all of these websites (from what I understand) have much better third-party warranties and customer service than Sager.

Edit: Here, this thread talks about good websites to order your Sager from.

x700 is not faster b/c of 256ram, in fact it will perform exactly the same with 128mb. Just wanted to clarify that.

Some games x700 will do better, in some 6600 will do better. For hl2 x700 is better. Overall x700 is slightly faster, however 6600 has higher o/c potential.

I own 3880, stock 300/600 gpu o/c @ 350/800. Works well for me

Never said that the X700 was faster, just that it benched higher in 3dMark05 due to the extra memory. Also, on all the reviews I have read of the 5320 the X700 core is clocked at 350ish, and the mem is clocked around 600ish (but with the xtra 128 it is ok).

so those are the factory settings?

The x700 in the 5320 is clocked 350/660. So in that respect it IS faster.

The extra 128MB video ram wont affect games much unless you play in blazingly high resolutions. The only places you'll notice a difference are in very heavy graphics applications and benchmarking.

I have notice on my desktop that I do get a performance increase in gameplay when I changed out my video card to a 25mb card, but the biggest performance increase came is in MMORG games (ie GuildWars & WoW). Doens't mean everyone will see this type of increase.

Hey Twilight, on a side not how is the 5320 working for you? How's the battery life? Not trying to thread jack here either so if you want to post in your review thread I will check there.

I didnt want to thread jack so I sent you a PM.

Go back to your lives citizens. Back to the thread at hand!

Im not a real big over clocker so Im thinking x700 is a pretty good buy. 1920x1200 resolution ROCKS!

I'd take my 6600 anyday for overclocking potential, reliability, and stability. I hear a lot more people complain about ATI cards problems with games than nvidia. I've got my 6600 clocked past 3800 in 3d mark 05. Can run HL2 at max fine, play doom 3 at max fine, it runs LOMAC, Silent Hunter 3, WWII Online, Civ 4....everything. Very happy.

Just a note... IMO Never compare ATI/NVidia based on any game with either the source or DOOM engine. Nvidia will wtfpwn the HL2 Benchmark, whereas ATI will win the Doom Bench. The games are just written that way.
Foshizzy...I would recommend getting 1 gig of RAM. It certainly helps a lot! If you can, just get 1 1 gig stick instead of 2 512 sticks...you know, for upgradeability later. It's usually only about 5 dollars more.

Or is it? I have never run the HL2 benchmark utility so I wouldn't know but it is a good point. Im trying to base off 3dmark05 but primary use is for HL2 sooooo any one ran HL2 benchmark before on both Nvidia/ATI cards on comparable systems?

Also I was planning on buying another 512 stick from crucial but 1 x 1GB DDR2-4200 533Mhz is a good idea fo sho. Big ballin with upgradable to 2GB. I'm down!
