ah, a little over 2800, just a typo. It still runs everything great though and I'm a happy bunch, except for that whole battery processor clock down thing.

Nvidia

The 7800 GTX makes great strides here, relative to the 6800 Ultra. Performance is way up no matter what the settings are, and you can play at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 8XAF while maintaining over 60fps average. ATI's cards have excelled at Half-Life 2 performance, with the X850 XT PE firmly outclassing the 6800 Ultra, and its relatively good showing against Nvidia's next-gen card is impressive.

If Half-Life 2 is said to be ATI's best game, then Doom 3 is Nvidia's. The 6800 Ultra would already tear past the X850 XT PE, though recent ATI drivers have improved performance considerably when AA and AF are enabled. The 7800 GTX boosts performance by as much as 25% over the 6800 Ultra. Two 7800 GTX cards in SLI deliver a whopping average of 90fps at the extreme settings of 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF! Recall that during gameplay, Doom 3 is limited to 60fps. Continued...

definitely go with the x700 with 256mb. The benchmarks with the stock x700 killed the 6600. when the 660 was overclocked untill the bar wouldnt go any higher, the 660 beat the stock x700 by 100 or so points. x700 is better.
It should be noted that the X700 performs better in benchmarks, but in real life frames per second the 6600 tends to be about 5-10FPS faster. Not that this really makes that big of a difference.

It should also be noted, that if you're getting a laptop for buisness, the 3880 looks much more buisness than the 5320.

Any why is this? Same size at 15.4" screen, same Centreno M techology, but different video.

The only factor in the both in my option is double the memory for the 5320(256MB x700) vs 3880(128MB 6600). Yes you can overclock the 6600 but as I stated in my above post I would not do this.

Back and forth...back a forth......Nvidia or ATI...ATI or Nvidia. What ever pwnzors HL2 is all I care about. I think I will be ordering Sager from pctorque.com tomorrow and the 5320 is about 60 bucks more. Besides that.....I might flip a quarter.

Any last suggestions?

The front pannel DJ doesnt look very professional.

IMO if your going to have 2,000 free to spend on a spanking new laptop, you're hopefully a good enough businessman that you're clients are interested in your product or w/e, and not the dj panel on your laptop =P

Presentation, presentation, presentation! Sometimes clients will judge you completly based on your look and that of your equiptment. Certain "professional" clients might frown upon you having a DJ pannel on your laptop and not hire you. Sad fact of life. Others might hire you just because of it. Again, sad fact of life

You know what is really funny I went in for a job interview recently and they were surprised and please that I didn't bring a laptop with me. I guess the 4 guys before me came in popped open their lappys and started typing everything said (questions and answers) I thought that was a little strange, but then I got to thinking about it and they are probably fresh outta college and are used to just sitting there typing lecture notes and what not so it was completely normal for them. Unfortunately I didn't get the job (as they hired someone internally) but I'm not worried. Have to find something sooner or later.

I'm more of a freelancer though. So it matters in that way for me more-so right now. But if you already work for a company and are sent out on a contract, your company might not look professional if you pop out a laptop with a DJ pannel.

Just something to think about. I dont mean any offence.
None taken here. I think it would really depend on the person you are working with. Some (the real geeks) will think that the DJ panel is great, others (the not real geeks) will find it unusual for a laptop to have. I bet if you explained it to them though it would change their minds about it.

BTW, I just got 3218 in 3DMark05 by overclocking.
Nice. Well it looks like it might be a bit longer till I get my lappy. Oh, well maybe by the time I get to buy I will have actually made up my mind.

the x700 isnt powerful enough to utilize the extra 128 MB of ram. its basically the same gimmick as when they started bundling the 9700 with 256. the two cards are more or less the same, except for one important difference. ATI sucks for Linux. im talking serious driver issues. if you plan on using linux ever, GET NVIDIA. otherwise, let other things like price, size, weight, battery, what have you, decide between a computer with a x700 or a computer with a 6600.

Good call. As I recall my buddies had a hell of a time installing Gentoo on the ATI video cards. Support just isn't there. This is very pertinent information on my buying process.

I guess I am just too old school when it comes to Linux. Started using Debian about 10 or so years ago (back then you generally had to write your own driver for everything). Now I have Debian & Red Hat installed on 2 different machines and the first thing I kill is the GUI. I also don't intend to install any version of Linux on my lappy, so that isnt't a problem for me either.
